My newly purchased and my first ever Vet, a 2001, I believe has an issue with the antenna...it will not fully retract into the fender...is it suppose to and if it is, any ideas what the problem may be ?? Thanks, Vetfox

I have an '01 and sometimes the antenna didn't retract all the way but most of the time it did. Worked better after I cleaned it. Never lubricate it.
Only the 'verts have a retractable antenna. The Z06 and the Fixed Roof Coupe have a fixed antenna mast. The coupes have two antennas'; one in the windshield and the other in the rear hatch glass.
With the mast all the way up, wipe the mast with Acetone. That will clean any oil. grease and dirt form the mast sections. Then apply some silicone spray on a cloth and wipe the mast. Lower the mast and raise it up again. Wipe some more silicone on it and repeat. Do more applications until the mast moves all the way up and down.
Using a grease or oil will only attract dirt and that will cause the mast to not slide easily and possible break the nylon that runs the mast up and down.

The mast should retract all the way down and cleaning it like mentioned above will help unless there is something else wrong with the antenna mechanism.
