C5 Load Capacity

C5 Load Capacity
I did a search and found a thread on the C6, but I'm curious about the stated load capacity on my C5. The door plaque says 399 pounds. Now I'm a big guy......6' 5" and 270 pounds. Not sure how much my wife weighs, but I'm guessing more than 129. All I could find in the manual is that exceeding this amount can cause parts to break. What's the real risk of exceeding this stated capacity? Thanks in advance.

I think the "load capacity" is determined by how much weight you can have in the car with the stock tires still able to run full rated speed (186mph) at the tire pressures listed on the door. More weight = more heat at high speed (>150) = boom! I know that I had a loaded car, small trailer, and a passenger on a 1600 mile road trip without any ill effects. Only noticed a little higher rear tire temperature, but nothing to be concerned about.
