Default bad gasoline

I drove my 2002 Z06 home Friday after a hot and hard day at the track with it running just fine, even after a new tank of Shell I got about 20 miles before I parked it for the weekend.

Sunday it tried to start with a small back fire or two. Put some heat in and replaced the fuel filter and it’s the same, tries to start but just for a second every now and then. No water in the oil or oil in the radiator, plugs are dark but seem OK.

I stopped by the dealership and they have a left and right fuel pump for about $800 for the left or what they called primary and with my good old boy discount, which everyone gets, it’s still 6 something.

Should I drain the tank?

Curious as to how you've concluded it's a fuel, or fuel delivery problem.

Mine barely wanted to run when I had a broken valve spring. Changed wires, plugs, still bad. Was thinking fuel or fuel delivery when I pulled passenger valve cover, very easy and quick, bingo had a winner. Pull your codes, p0300 - engine misfire detected? Fuel pump and return line check valve should be able to be checked at fuel rail with fuel pressure gauge, correct? Good luck hope its something minor.

My old '02 Z06 has similar problems as described above. It also turned out to be a broken valve spring...

Run the codes and do some research before throwing down the money

I do not know the code, but I had similar issues with my C5Z and turned to be the crank sensor.
