I recently purchased a 2002 corvette which,[ except for the manual transmission, bothering an old knee injury ] is just about perfect for me.
Is it feasible and cost effective to find someone who would trade me an automatic transmission and for me to pay $500-$600 to change it out or would it be better to sell my toy and purchase another one with an automatic. I would have to go through the selling and search process all over again and once again pay DMV and the state their fees.
Has anyone done this ? What problems can come up, that I'm not aware off ?
Possible, but a VERY labor intensive costly project. There are a huge amount of things that need to be changed. IMHO the best thing to do is find a dealer with the Auto trans car you want and do a trade.
Thanks for the replies.
I went through a long process getting the white, low mileage convertible and don't look forward to doing it again. My present car has every add-on I wanted but I guess the chase is just part of the game !
Swapping transmissions in a C5 would probably cost over $5000 and considering all the electronics involved it would probably never work correctly anyway. It would be a huge nightmare.
