Default Cold starting

Just recently replaced the spark plugs and wires on my 2003 z06. But when I cold start it the car turns off. It will idle very low and shut off unless I give it some gas till the motor warms up. Is there anything I can do so it won't happen?

Actually it was but I figured it was my spark plugs cause they were bad but it still does it when I cold start it. I'm thinking my coil packs and it's like 30 degrees

Dude you're shooting from the hip. Coil packs should (but won't always) throw misfire codes. I honestly don't think it's your coil packs. The first time my truck saw -15F today, it fired and died. If your car dies, does it fire right back up and sort of figure itself out? My Z06 doesn't really do this at or below 0, but I'm more curious to hear about yours.

It fires right back up again at a really high rpm rate then drops to like 300 rpms and sounds like it wants to shut off untill I give it some gas. Once I get the motor warmed up she runs like a champ but it's a pain in the *** to always have to do this in cold weather

Odd. My TBI truck was kind of like that too. Is this a cold start on a warm day too? Or just a cold start now that temperatures are dropping? Have you tried blowing carb cleaner through the IACV? You can run the car with the MAF unplugged to do so.

No it only does this in the cold weather. I haven't tried anything else besides change the plugs and wires

I have a hard time believing it's a retarded tune like my truck. Why don't you try cleaning the IACV? It's quick and easy. It may just be that the IACV is caked up in that region because it doesn't normally need to open up so far.

Hopefully it helps, but I did just have a thought. Is your car modified at all? A cam could dramatically change an engine's cold fueling needs.

Those won't affect your cold idle, but since you was in there you may as well clean the MAF too.

on my truck and my grand prix, it's just 2 torx screws iirc. forgot about removing, that's good too. my grand prix had a cruddy plunger and it would stick, causing a no high idle in the cold. sound familiar? that's even easier than what I was talking about earlier, which is blowing carb cleaner into the iacv intake. do the iacv removal first, I totally forgot my pontiac pulled the same crap.

Ok I took a part the throttle body and cleaned it, and I think I cleaned the IACV also lol not too sure about the IACV but I put everything back together and it still has a low idle but this time didn't take as long to warm up and get to a normal idle
