Default Tranny temp question

I've seen several post on this forum about the overtemp indication on the DIC. It seems that if you press the reset buttom when you have an overtemp indication you get a readout of the temperature. Is this correct?

If so, it means that the temperature of the tranny is available. My quess is the tranny runs hotter than most of us would like to see so GM wants to keep this info a secret.

Anyone got any ideas as to how we can get the car to give us this inforamtion?

Lots of discussion on how to get at this info... but no solutions yet. The data is not even brought out to the OBD port (so autotap and Ease cannot see it).

Another very good reason to switch from a conventional ATF to a synthetic ATF, like Mobil One, Redline, Amsoil.

From what I understand people who have ran amsoil in the tranny still get the "High trans temp" warning.

Perhaps I should have also stated that the synthetic ATF has a higher tolerance for high temperature. Under the current design the only thing that might get down operating temperatures are a series of oil coolers ie trans, differential, oil coolers.

Yes, you get a digital readout after pressing reset.

After hearing about this, I finally had it happen to me at the track a couple weekends ago.

I plan on wrapping the exhaust since the heat seems to be coming from there anyway.

I ran two laps on the Hockinghiemring after the warning light came on and the Temperature changed from numbers (285) to HOT and did not display a number just the word HOT. It took about 45 minutes of slow driving before a temp showed up again. Time for a cooler!!!!!!!!!!!!!
