I personally have found that an experienced sexy woman of 2 - 3 significant "Affairs" are usually the very best in performance and knowledge of max RPM + ergonomics. Parts just getting properly worn in, leather seats soft and supple, fuel injection bugs worked out (I've got a blower on my 04 Z06), a good wash and wax makes her quite presentable and she came with most all of the bling (Not really necessary anyhow) comes already installed.
I'd suggest you go for an older but wiser girl (Z06).
Personally, I didn't want a car that someone else moded. I got a 2 owner 02Z with 24K and bone stock. Add $10k for a few mods and 487rwhp later it is my dream car. Get what you really want be it stock, fully built or somewhere in between. Only you know what you want. I agree that I would not worry so much about the year as the care it has been given.
altered mileage is the first one. people on this forum don't talk about it often but it's really easy to do on these cars and there is a big value difference. you can easily buy the parts needed to do so from wrecked cars
Actually the '02+ got higher lift cams (and the same '01 springs till late '03, hence the spring failures) and '04 got the C6 fuel system among other things.
Got my '04Z 2+ years ago, with 17K. I'm the 3rd owner, it was dead stock with $1k worth of clear bra. Been having fun modding it and driving it...almost 40k now. Been bullet proof....
My 02 had 4 previous owners when I bought it two years ago, with only 2,7xx miles. Had a pre-purchase inspection done to ease my worries and 45k+ miles later it's been nearly flawless.

Actually the 01 Z06 valve springs are different between the 02-04... 01 Valve springs are Blue, 02-04 are Yellow... The difference in cam size is very small... 01Z Cam is the same as the LS2 C6 cam...
I could be wrong, but I don't think the Yellow ones came out till late in the '03 model year. If not the color, than at something changed since late '03+ have no spring issues...
And yes the cam change was small, but that does not mean it did not exceed the springs designed limits.

02
spring rate was increased when the cam changed to .550 lift vs the .525 in 01
If you are worried about abuse have a Certified Mechanic do a survey for you. Upfront cost will save you back end which are greater. Look these cars are basically bullet proof. I drove mine hard as in real hard in my last State. My car is a one owner and in great shape because I cared for it. So my response is as long as it was serviced you are good to go. Look for signs of abuse. Burn holes, torn seat, uneven wear on tires, engine leaks, exhaust damage, under body damage, If a clutch will it move from 3rd gear, body integrity, paddle wear, windshield pit, etc. You will know.
If you can not afford a mechanic ask a gear head a favor on this forum. You will be surprised how many responses you will get. I checked out cars myself on out of State inquires. Did someone say road trip. You got my drift. Good Luck!

The difference in lift is minuscule. Though it's already been said they changed the springs for the 02 anyway. The "fault" could have been anything. Most likely a manufacturing defect. It's not like American car manufacturers aren't knows for selecting the cheapest components that will get the job done. The fact that it's literally only a handful of Z06's that had spring failure further's the point that the problem was not the minuscule cam change.
Of course, there are those people who just tend to believe BS so
