As some may know, my car is nicknamed the Blue Angel because it resides in the Navy town of Jax, FL and because the car is a Blue 2001 (the year of 9/11). I thought the tribute to the Military was appropriate. Also, because C5's do have a fighter jet like sleek look.
Anyway, my navy buddy just gave me an authentic 'Remove Before Flight" tag that was used by a Blue Angel in 2010 right here in Jacksonville.
Nice, I have a regular remove before flight tag on my vette key ring, sometimes I will attach it to the hood when it's up at shows, gives a nice effect.
I was given one from a friend that is a civilian employee at NAS Lemoore CA. He's a jet mechanic and works on F/A-18s. The ones they use are a very thin vinyl.

When I was in the Air Force I used to remove them all the time from bomb racks, wish I would have kept one.
Okay, to make this post Vette related. Due to the fact that my Vert is trapped in the garage for winter(six inches of snow last night), I have the battery tender hooked up to it's hard wired connector, it's sitting on top of the battery and the hood is closed and latched...so to make sure I don't try to drive off with the thing still plugged in (I'm just saying...) I put the Remove Before Flight tag on the keys to remind me!
So for the rest of the story, I managed to collect a few RBF flags. Most are fin pins from 500lb GBU-12's. How this works is each of the nine GBU-12's carried by an F-15E has a pin in the rear fins to make sure they don't deploy on the ground. The end of runway crew arms the weapons and removes the pins and stashes them behind a small access panel on the belly of the jet. When you get back from a mission, if their are weapons left, they reinstall the pins. But for every bomb you drop, there is a leftover pin. So you write the date, target, tail number and crewmate or wingman. Makes a nice souvenir.
Cheers,
JG
