Track Day Oil Recommendation
Just got the latest Vette Magazine, March 2014 VOL.38/ No 03.
At page 60, ExxonMobil (Mobil 1) U.S. Motorsports Technical Advisor Roger Hood, in response to the question, "What oil should I run at track days?", Indicates: "For Corvette owners who want to put their cars on track, we recommend draining out the 5W-30 and replacing it with 15W-50 street oil".
The recommendation for street oil is apparently to clarify that it is not racing oil, which would have to be changed much more frequently.
The above is news to me, and perhaps to some of you also.

Run the factory specified Mobil-1 5W-30 and add 1/2 quart over. That heavier oil may work for track use on hot days, but it could be a problem on the street especially on cold days.
I rin 5W-30 in my '87 for track and autocross use and I've never had a problem. Also use that same weight in my supercharged '02.
