I have a 2004 C5 with 18,000 miles. I am having trouble starting it on the first start. The gauges blink off and on. If I turn the key to the off position after the first start attempt it starts and runs fine. I believe my security system has a failure but it's not displaying as a failure code. Any thoughts on this would be most welcomed.
If it is a security system failure there will be a code stored but not displayed.
Further if it is a security system failure, when you turn the key to the on position the security light on the dash will stay illuminated. (don't need to try to crank the engine just turn the key to the "ON" position)
You can pull the codes yourself with the following procedure:
My car has done the same thing 2 times. With 60K on it I plan to replace the ignition switch since they are prone to issues. The switch is not expensive and pretty easy to replace. You still retain/reuse the actual key cylinder. If you need more info on this you can Google for info or let me know if need more info/help. With your low mileage this may not be your issue though. Just something else to consider.
Thank you to all that responded. What I thought was a security system failure turned out to be a loose connection to the starter. I had the injectors cleaned and checked all of the grounds. Running great again!
