I haven't removed one from a C5 yet myself, will do later this year though. But I've removed plenty from other vehicles in my past life as a Technician and it usually involves long extensions and swivel sockets. Can you tell us what bolts you have trouble with? Like is it the top 2, or the passenger side? Is the car up on jackstands so getting under it is no problem? Have you dropped the engine cradle a inch or two to give you room to reach?

Maybe pics might help us?

Since I have never done it hopefully someone that has will chime in. But what I've heard is that you DON'T completely remove the bolts or nuts from the cradle attaching points and place a jack under it to lower it without dropping it completely off. This gives you the room to reach those bolts and also gives the engine block room to come forward when you separate it from the torque tube and slide forward and lift it up and out of the engine bay.

Now doesn't all that sound like it makes sense? LOL!

I followed cajundudes write-up when I removed mine from the top. But link is not working now. But I removed bellhousing first. The two bolts up in the tunnel were tough and it seems I had to use an odd wrench and could only turn like a 1/4 turn at most. It was not easy and it took a while, but it did come out. Good luck with it.

I have removed the engine from the top.
Lower the cradle 3-4", let the engine drop with it.
I removed the heads and manifold. This gives you more room to work.
The bellhousing will stay in the car.
The hood can stay on-lift from the side.

I lifted the engine out the front once. You're right the bellhouse bolts are a PITA to get at, but they're accessible. I had access to a 2 post lift, so that made it easier.

I remember from the bottom, you have to blindly reach your hand almost all the way up the bellhousing, like at 300* and 60*, and get those 2 bolts with an OPEN END WRENCH. It takes like 5 minutes per bolt, since you have to do 1/6 turn at a time until its hand loose.

Yeah all you have to do is remove the smaller part of the Torque Tube to the Bell Housing! Much easier that way, remove B/H once engine is removed - MN6 does not have the retainer clamp either like the A4's do so you will not need to worry about that - it should slide right forward!

Thanks,Matt
