Default Block off plates

Why do some people say not to use block off plates for A.I.R flange on headers? Is it easy to cut and weld up the flange hole while the headers are mounted on the car?

Curious about those comments. Why don't you contact the maker of your headers or proposed headers. If your headers have an AIR connection and you don't plan to use the AIR system obviously you have to do something. This would have been better posted in Technical not General. Obviously if there is an AIR connection using a block off plate would provide a little turbulence in that location but not sure how much that would affect exhaust flow. Doubt if it is much.

On my car I have LG street headers. In the course of modding my engine I have had the air pump system deleted from functioning on my engine due to the fact I had problems with the pump. Unfortunately I've been advised to keep the parts connected to the airpump connections on the headers. The reason is supposedly if the fittings are just left free standing with nothing connected to them, they can vibrate enough to crack and leak. I really would like to remove all the garbage in my engine compartment too, but I don't know if I should take a chance and disconnect everything and see what happens. I don't want to have to remove the headers to weld up the holes left by cracked air pump fittings. Anyone have suggestions?

The AIR system is only used for a few minutes until the car starts to warm up. If you want to remove everything as many, many people have done go ahead. Just make block off plates and gaskets, or I am sure you can buy them somewhere. See the following link for PCM related codes? Or, have it tuned out. Don't forget to plug the vacuum line going to the pump discharge valve when you remove the pump and other stuff. If you want to remove the passenger side you will have to remove the intake manifold. Or, just remove the drivers side and just block the passenger side with a thin blocking plate and gaskets and bolt back the OEM tubing. If you look at the design the tubing behind the engine has a bracket so you should not have any tubing failure.
