I was on ccw website and they have alot of nice wheels with big lips. But most of them they dont make with the big lips for corvette's. They only make them for imports if they are a custom wheel then why cant they make them for us. After all they are made in the USA.
Don't know, good question. I talked to John at CCW the other day about some new wheels and he told me the max lip we could go on our C5's would be a 4.5 lip with a 20x12.5 wheel.
Of course that combo for rear wheels would require flared fenders.
I talked to him too and he told me the same thing. I dont what to run a 20inch rim they dont make DR for them. Im putting L5 rear fenders on mine now and i dont want the same five rims that all the other guys have. They have alot of new rims they are putting out but none for corvette's only the same ol same ol rims.

I totally agree, my plan fingers crossed is to eventually have two sets of wheels. I may have to submit myself to getting the 20x12.5 for the 4.5 lip because i've seen 1 other car in town here with it and it absolutely looks gorgeous. The sticky tire selection for a corvette with 20's is very limited.
I think the latest wheels they have released were the hybrid versions of the 505 and SP16A. It doesn't hurt to explore other options outside of CCW but the price numbers are what scares me away from other wheel manufacturers.
It still bugs me though,
What could be the reason for not being able to manufacturer a 19 or 18 inch wheel with a more lip than their maximum of 3 inches?

Did he give you a reason when you spoke with him?
Offset. The corvette requires a very high offset relative to other cars. The more positive offset you need, the smaller the lip becomes.
You could have a 5" lip, but your wheel and tire would hang 2" outside of the fender by doing this. Of course, you could run negative camber and stretched tires to compensate, but that's a whole different conversation. Fender flares are another option to cover up the portion that hangs out.

That makes lots of sense.
I was hoping you would chime in, you're the wheel guru.
The more i read about the tire selection for a 20x12.5 wheel the more of a turn off it is to go with that combo. All i've found are Nitto invo, Michelin Pilot Super Sports, Pirelli Pzero, and Toyo TIR tires.
Just thought of something. You could also ask for a C6 narrow body style mounting surface to get a little more lip. Might only be 1/2" more, but it's something.
What's frustrating is I can have more lip on a 3 series than a corvette thanks to BMW using much lower offsets than GM.

No he never gave me one , he just told me he didnt make them in that size and i told him i had L5 fenders on my car.

I have 2inces over stock fenders on mine. And i still cant get them to make a 19inch rim with a 4inch lip

Hmmm not a bad idea, won't hurt to ask...

I know! 19 inch wheels with at least a 4 inch lip would be GOLD.
No i dont have big breaks, They still dont make them for what i want im just going to have to go with another brand of wheel.
You're right, pretty much they won't custom cut the wheel any other size than what's offered on their website. For example look at the CCW SP500 in a "19", they don't even offer them in wheel sizes 19x12 or 19x12.5.
