Default key fob question

im sure this as been asked/serenaded but i came up with nothing searching.

i need a key fob for my 99. to my understanding it has the passive system. from what Ive gathered i can use a remote with out the passive feature and it will work fine.

will a fob from a 01 work with my 99?

the passive remotes are discontinued and its a feature i really do not care if i have or not.

No it will not. gm makes a kit to replace the 99 to 01 and newer. 2 key fobs, 4 tpms and receiver. I will be changing mine this year.

Do the tps have to be changed? I currently do not use them? Or will the Alarm work fine without? Do u have a link to the kit?

My buddy bought a new one for his 97 that replaces the passive style. It was bought from Gene at gmpartshouse at the Carlisle event. It worked just fine with no other changes. I don't have part # but if it is listed for your car it will work with no other changes.

You can also use the 2000 fob (doesn't have passive) with your car without changing anything. There's a new part number for a gm replacement for that fob. I know it was available on gmpartshouse.com last time I looked. You cannot use the 2001-2004 fob with your car unless you do the upgrade described above that upgrades your fobs and tpms, and receiver.
