I was at a car show today and a guy with a Trans Am was claiming his car was equipped with a factory Z06 engine and an auto transmission. The guy was claiming to know someone high up at GM. He also said that he signed papers that stated if he ever sold the car it would have to be back to GM.
OK, I didn't believe the guy and I'm sure that none of you do. Does anyone know the VIN code for the Z06 engine? The eighth digit on the TA's VIN was (G).
GMMG is putting the LS6 in 69 2002 Camaros and calling it the "ZL-1". As far as I know, nobody is putting them in Trans Ams. I made one though. After I blew my LS1, I bought an LS6 crate motor.
I have heard of someone who had an LS-6 put into his F-body. Nothing special, no "special papers", he just bought the engine and computer and had a shop install it for him. If the guy you are talking about simply said that he did an engine swap, I'd have believed him. I don't care who you know in GM, they aren't going to stop the line for a few hours just to put an LS-6 in this guys car.
