All,
I found the vacuum leak under the battery tray as the forum had suggested. When I removed the battery tray, I could see the rust on the metal frame suggesting there was a spill at some time over the years. After 30 minutes of searching, I found the broken vacuum line and repaired it the best I could. Could only get one hand in the area and only had about 2" of line to work with before it went into the firewall. Got at least 1" of line inside the coupling on the end going into the fire wall.
Thanks forum for all the information provided.
I am accomplishing more work on the engine (tune up), so when that is completed I will let everyone know if the air vents are working again.

Good deal that you found the source of the vacuum leak. Hope your repair did the trick.
Yes, that did the trick. What a great feeling after trouble shooting and splicing the vacuum lines together and the HVAC system is back to normal again. It is also amazing to me how small the vacuum line is and can control so many mechanics.
