refilling freon question (ac light goes off)
I believe my AC Freon is low. Every time I turn the AC on, after about 3 seconds it shuts off. I think once it blinked. now it just goes on and off. it will not blow cold. from my research here, that indicates possibly low Freon.
I looked at those self fill kits. Thing is, they require the AC to be on at coldest/full setting. well since the AC keeps shutting off, how am I supposed to turn on the AC so I can fill the Freon on the low side?
any help in this matter?

If you don't have any experience with automotive air conditioning work, take the car to a reputable shop that has experienced A/C techs.
If the system is low on R134a, it may be a simple recharge to get the system working. But if there might be a small leak, the tech will be able to add a leak detector dye to the system so it can be found.

If the system is low on oil and you add freon you could end up trashing your compressor and costing BIG $$$

I'll bet one can of R134 will provide enough to get the system working, and a 2nd can will top it off to blow cold again. Check your hose connections to make sure they're tight.

If you do decide to top the charge off yourself, avoid like the plague any refrigerants that have sealer in them, the dye is ok, but the sealer can damage a shops equipment.
