Traded in my 02 mag red coupe for a 00 rt/10 viper about a month ago. When it comes to sheer performance & crowd gathering nothing american made compares. The viper is an awesome car. But,I tried to use as a daily driver & it just about killed me.Getting in and out is a chore that you just about need to be a contortionist for.The ride is very harsh & there is a tremendous amount of heat generated around your feet & legs.I can't imagine how bad it would be with headers.I know if you can afford one you shouldn't be cocerned with fuel mileage but I was getting about 130 miles out of a full tank which calculated to about 8.4 MPG.The final straw was when a local police officer followed behind my wife about 12 miles with the final 5 miles being out of his jurisdiction!Sold it this past Tuesday to a local high line auto retailer & bought an 02 Z06.I was afraid it would be like getting into a 4 cylinder after the viper but to my surprise (happy) it seemed to be within a hairs width performance wise. And the Z06 can truly be used as a daily runner.I had wanted a viper for several years & as soon as I can afford both (hopefully not too long :cry )I will have both.Like I said before the viper is an amazing car but for me,I"ll take a Z06! :smash: :smash: :smash: Will update my sig & am glad to be back!!!
I'm pretty much in agreement with your assessment of the Viper and Vette. I use our Z06 more for daily driving and our Viper more as a weekend and track toy.
Have you ever noticed that the reasons Corvette enthusiasts give for preferring Corvettes to Vipers are the same reasons BMW enthusiasts give for preferring M3's to Z06's?
Im 6 foot and over 200 pounds. First time I tried to get in the drivers seat, I cranked my head off the roof panel. Sitting in it was uncomfortable for me. Performance is great from the factory, but hey we all mod our cars to what we want anyway.

Funny... I'm 6'3" and about 250lbs... I have a good 2" above my head. Maybe it was an older R/T you drove? I drove an old RT and did not fit at all - GTS was like night and day.

 You probably would have been better off with an M3 then - if you mod to what you want, and power doesn't matter, why not go for the best in comfort from the factory?

It was an RT/10. I hit my head while getting in. Once in, there was some clearance to the roof.
To me the C5 is plenty comfy with more than enough performance potential, at least on the street. There are street C5's well into the 9's now and scratching on 8's. I dont think you can do that with an M3 practably.
While in Maui a couple of years ago I had the opportunity to rent an RT10 probably a 95. I am 6'3' and 250 lbs. I too did not fit well. Had to drive with my accelerator foot postioned sideways. I like to creature comforts of the Z06 much better.
Incidently at that same visit I first started out with a Ferrari 308 which broke a timing belt going up a volcano road (lot's of fun), which they replaced with a Testarossa for the rest of the day.! They gave me an additional day free for which I opted for the Viper. I always loved the TR, as far as handling, but it lacked go power. To me the Z06 handles like a TR, but goes like a Viper. What a rush!.
PS the 308 was definitely too small. Like sitting in a bumper car! The cost to fix the timing belt and the bent valves was $2500. Glad I just rented it.
