recently bought a 98 c5. took a ride and it was pretty noisy, thought it was just the worn tires. bought the car, replaced the tires and it is still pretty noisy. is this typical for this car? the exhaust is loud but quiets when not accelerating, the tire noise does go away when cornering and returns to the steady hum again, worst at about 70. still love the car just wish i could hear the radio.
Do you have a aftermarket shifter? Reason I ask if the shifter was monkeyed with the noise dampening mat on the shifter box may not have been reinstalled. A surprising amount of noise can come from there if the mat is not installed.
What tires did you install? Did you get a alignment with the new tires? that could be some of your noise.. might be wheel bearing if its a hum. Does it sound like its from the front or rear? does it change with speed or when turning?
It's an auto with 10'000 mi and totally stock. If you only drive the vette you will get used to the noise, but I drive a avalanche ltr and the difference in noise is huge. Oh I do drive my vette I got this one from some Dr's estate with 7'300 mi on her about 3 months ago. Re placed all fluids and tires.
That's the sound of performance. It's as simple as that. You need to remember that the C5 was designed to be as light as possible and because of this, sound deadening was not a huge priority. If you think the C5's are loud, you should try a Lotus Elise. It's the nature of the beast when it comes to performance cars made primarily of fiberglass or plastic. I like the fact that it's noisy. It gives it that racecar feel.
PS: Did you know that your floorboards are made of balsa wood sandwiched between two sheets of aluminum?

I don't know
The Z06 has the least sound deadening and the thinnest glass, and I have absolutely no trouble hearing the radio despite the cam and headers
Might also consider a Trunk Partition.. if you are hearing Road noise then that will make a big difference. My Z06 has one behind the seat and blocks the sound in the trunk area, makes a big difference.
I drive a modded Z06 and I can hear the radio just fine
Have you checked the wheel bearings?
just changed the LH rear wheel bearing. its a new car again!!! thank you all for your help, great website. saved a ton of money getting the bearing on e-bay and having a mechanic other than the dealer install it.

Mine has window noise, I think its the moulding around the window and doors let air in which causes wind noise. I have a 99 coupe.
