Battery and Noise ???
Last year I bought this new to me C5 and have not driven it much at all as the weather has been just to iffy. the car has sat for at least 6 weeks and maybe even a couple of weeks longer than that with out any attention at all. today here in Bama it is 70 degrees, I had a Doctor Appointment today up in Huntsville and thought I would drive the Vette the 100 or so mile round trip. Well of course the damn thing was dead, just 10 days ago it was 6 degrees, so we have had some very cold weather. it being dead is not the problem as I planned on replacing it as soon as the weather got to were I could start driving it more.
The problem was when I hooked a charger up to it. There was a thumping or maybe knocking sound coming from low down on the passenger side of the engine compartment, somewhere around the front of the engine I think. Has to be electric in some way as it came and went when I turned the charger on and off. Any of you guys have a clue what this could be? Maybe someone has seen or heard of this before.

Guys I truly feel like a dumb *** for not doing those very things. either disconnecting the Battery or using a tender. It wouldn't be so bad if I didn't own the three battery tenders I have setting on the work bench. You know I felt like "It won't happen to me" I never though the car would end up setting that long, so I just didn't do either one. BAD Roland-BAD Roland..

You MUST at least disconnect the negative terminal first (recommended over the positive for safety reasons in all cars).
A charger converts AC to DC. This produces a DC square wave and not a "true" DC voltage/current. A good battery can filter this out. A dead battery can let a lot of it through. The electronics in the modules do not like DC square waves and you can damage them. Based on the charger quality you could have a good bit of AC ripple carried thru also, which is not good.
Trickle chargers are OK since they are used to maintain a good charged battery.
