Hey all! Hope this is the right spot to post this...
Drove 14 hours round trip yesterday and picked up a 2000 c5 from a nice fellow up in NH! I've kind of been lurking here for a while without really posting anything significant and finally made a move.
The car has 110,000 miles on it and is a 6 speed. Upon purchase the car would stall out at 2mph which was a parameter in HPT that I was able to change. So a new battery and about 20 mins of a flash and all was good to go! I'm still getting a remove key and wait 10 seconds message that won't go out and all of a sudden my HUD and dash lights aren't working, but I didn't have time to fiddle with them too much. Maybe one of you guys will have some pointers on that one...
I have to get it tagged later on this week, but figured I'd share a few pics. She's really mild at the moment with just a Corsa cat back and part of an intake... it has carbon fiber plumbing with a stock airbox. As far as future mods, I'm thinking a nice modest all motor build may be in the cards next winter.
I came from a first gen CTS-V that I wasn't too pleased with and I expect to hang on to this one a bit longer!
A big welcome to the Corvette brotherhood. Fine looking specimen you have got there. Good job. Pls fill out your entire profile that way we know where you live and can come over for some refreshments, . Greetings, Rob
Thanks for the warm welcome guys! Warmth is happily accepted with this foot of snow we're scheduled to get tomorrow in my area. I supposed I'll have fun looking at the Vette for a while and have some time to fix the remainder of the problems!

The column lock system is a problem on all manual trans C5's and 1997 - 2000 automatic trans C5's. The Column Lock system works on a concept of a command issued ( BCM issues lock and unlock commands) and the lock motor acting on the command and responding back to the BCM "complete" to let the BCM keep track of the state of the column (locked or unlocked). If the lock motor fails, or for some other reason the BCM fails to receive the "complete" signal it gets upset. Many reasons the completed signal might not get back to the BCM. In the case of the Pull Key..... message, the BCM has failed to receive the "complete" signal to a LOCK command and the next time you try to start the car the BCM checks it's state info and discovers the column is "unlocked" when at engine start time it should be LOCKED. The column may or may not physically be locked. BCM has no way other than by having received completed signals back to know the columns state. From the BCM's perspective the column MUST be assumed to be locked (err on the safe side to prevent a "dumb" driver from driving with a locked column.) What it does at this point is send a signal to the PCM to enable fuel shutoff. GM had programmed that to be 2mph when the column lock recall was done but you set it to a higher value with HPT. What you can't do at this point is get the signal back to the BCM. Could be a failed lock motor, or could be a fried Column Lock Relay (fried because of low battery that could not operate the relay so it over heated) or any of several physical electrical failures between the lock motor and the BCM.
Now what can you do to fix this problem once and for all?????
Get yourself an LMC5 and install it. It is basicly a piece of electronics that connects to the BCM wiring that responds to the BCM in place of the lock motor when the BCM issues lock or unlock commands. The lock motor get disconnected in the UNLOCKED condition of the column lock and therefore the column will never physically lock again. But the BCM is still going to issue lock and unlock commands because it's wired into the BCM to do so and the BCM expects back "completed" signals. The LMC5 does that very reliably.
If you still have questions, feel free to ask in this thread or PM me.......
Wow! Thanks for the detailed info, that helps a lot. This will most definitely one of the first things I get on. It seems from what you're saying that the only side effects at this point will be the annoying messages right? In all likelihood I will be replacing this immediately after I get the car tagged if not before. It's still safe to drive, correct? I have heard differing things about the lock issue and don't want it to lock up on me while driving. Thanks again for the detailed help!
The dash lights were working then just quit on me after I flashed it...strange. I'm going to have to read into the links.
