Trick question?
I'd go with "D". But if you really need more excitement in your life, try "R".

I stay in 3 unless I'm on the hwy. 4th gear is the weakest of all so this puts less stress on it.

Ah. That explains the many pages of threads about broken transmissions I've been seeing. Oh wait...
"Weakest" is a relative term. There are things you can do to bugger up that transmission, but cruising around town in Drive isn't one of them.

Driving around in 3rd? Just put the damn thing in drive. Its an automatic. My old trans am has a drive and and over drive. That might make sense in that car. But not a C5.

My trans is built and has handled 450 to 600rwhp flawlessly for 6yrs. I prefer 3rd for better throttle response since the rpm's will be higher and also its easier on the trans because if you floor it it doesn't have to do the 4-2 downshift. Just some of the things that I feel make it last. I'd put my 4L65E up against any other out there anywhere.

Surly this is a trick question!! Keep it in "D" all the time unless you are in "P" or "R"!

How many times are you going to ask this? LS1?
