Have a 98 with 40,000 miles in perfect running condition.
I drive it once every 1 -2 weeks and keep a float charger on at all times so the battery is fully charged.
Car starts quickly and idles smoothly, but sometimes when first started, when transmission ( automatic)is engaged and foot is removed from brake the engine stops. I have to open and close the doors hard and than it will start and run when foot is removed from brake.
Anybody have any ideas why this happens.
Kinda sounds like 2mph shut off. Have you pulled the codes from dic? Are you getting any messages that say service steering column? Have you done a clb? Need more info. Possibly a short or loose connection in the wiring in the accordion between door and body. The experts will answer soon, but they will want more info, so start with codes so they can help you.

Check engine light is NOT on when car is running.
With an Actron Autoscan NO codes or pending codes.
No messages, have had the column lock problem fix installed many tears ago .
Not at home now with the FSM but I think it could be related an interlock safety switch. Don't quote me on that yet. Closing a door sounds like you are activating a bad switch somehow. Does your "door ajar" IPC light work?
PS: Don't pull your codes with readers that do not give all the C5 codes that could be there. Why do you not use the DIC buttons to pull your codes? If your reader can pull all the codes I apologize, but I am fairly certain it will not read the non engine(PCM) codes.

Thank you for this valuable information. I have owned this car since brand new, never had any problem so I was not aware of this feature.
Following the instructions given I went through the DIC sequence and found a few that had a letter suffix H, none with a letter C.
I erased all of the codes went for a drive(car started normally) and did another read.
No codes shown.
Since this appears to be an intermittent problem, I will read the codes the next time I have a starting problem to get a current code.

How did you fix the CL issue?
No factory/dealer fix works. Let us know please.
While 99.9% of CL issues are battery related not all are.
Actron scanner like most other less expensive scanners can ONLY pull emissions codes. There are hundreds of vehicle specific codes that might be set. Your C5 is the ONLY production car that has a built in scanner that can display the C5 specific codes.
My Actron can do much more, graph sensor outputs, ABS codes as well as store runs for playback to try to catch intermittent issues.
MoPar's have built in code readers built in since the mid/late 1980's by the way and still do.
