Anybody do the mod to replace the factory shift **** on an automatic with an aftermarket one meant for a stick shift? I'm tempted since I've seen some sick looking billet ball ones. How does it lock into gear without the top button once you replace it? How hard is it to do this mod? Pictures???

Vendors like Mid-America and Eckler's sells an adapter that goes on first then you install the manual style shift **** in top. It supposedly works and I know there have been members here on the forum that have done this. Hopefully someone that has will give you some good feedback.
Got mine from Mid America for like $49.
Works very easy by pushing down on the shifter ball (in my case) from park to Drive and again when returning to park.
Installation is relatively easy.
Here is pic of shifter without Ball, and ,NO, you do not have to take the console cover off to replace the shift ****, was doing something else in this picture.
Also did the mod, very easy to complete - took about 30 minutes at most. Yup, you just push shift **** down to go into reverse and back into park. Don't be afraid to do it.

Ordered a Black/Lt Oak shift boot from CorvetteMods to replace the original.

I've been told i'm a bad influence from time to time Myself I have to try to occupy myself with small more affordable mods to keep the urge for 19/20"wheels, new leather, spoilers, hoods, superchargers, and suspension relatively in check for the moment
Found this kit and just ordered it from that big auction site:
I've been toying with the idea of changing the shift **** for months now. Can't wait to change it out.
Fine fine fine.... I'll cave to the pressure I just ordered the same one but with the black ball. I really want matte/flat black ball but we'll see how this one looks when it comes it. I'm so excited! Said I should have it in my grubby hands by Tuesday.
Anybody know if the shift boots are the same for the automatic as the are the stick shift? Would love a new black with red stitching to go with my new ****.
How much pressure when you push down on the **** will enable it to change gears. I rest my hand on the **** **** when driving

I really want to do this mod, but I have the same questions. I figured I'd change the boot out while I'm at it with one that has burgundy colored stitching to match my mag red exterior. Then the E-brake boot and then the center console and then the...Oh, boy, this little mod just turned into an interior remake
