Default 1998 Ride Selector on Console

Drove a 1998 C5 and it had a switch on the console for different driving modes like Sport, Luxury, etc. Is that a standard item on 98's or is it an option like the Z51 package. I drove a 99 Z51 and dont remember that, and the later ones I drove had a active handling button.

That's the F45 option, three choices (luxury is not one of them) tour, sport and performance also known as real time dampening.

How does the option compare to a 99 with Z51 suspension package

then what are the buttons in my ashtray?

Just kidding OP - I have replaced the shocks, sways and bushings. that made a heck of a lot of difference in the ride. I think it rides as well as if not better than the "04"

It is an option on the car and an expensive one at that. It's not a bad thing to have on the car, but should the shocks go bad, be prepared for sticker shock - they are expensive to replace. Some owners end up putting regular shocks on the car when the selective ride ones go out and then install a device to fool the car's computer into believing the shocks are still there.

I gotta get me one of those "luxury" buttons !! Love your 98 ride there HW. Has your luxury button gotten you into the 9's yet? Seem to recall you were getting pretty close last time I checked.

My buddy just bought a 03 with selective ride. I have the Z51, both Verts. His on regular is too mushy to me. And on sport with RF tires it's pretty ruff riding. I'll take the Z51 and non RF tires any day.

Thank you ... but I'm still stuck at 10.22. I haven't done much racing since Marshall (paint it black vette) passed. The time I did go out my convertor was having an issue that we need to take care of. Also plan to do a fuel delivery upgrade I'd like to run 9's all (346ci) motor and the same with the '04' which has a forged (ready to spray) 383 and then spray and see where it'll go. I was thinking about droping a 300 pill down the 04 but not sure the A4 will hold. I'm really not interested in a power adder record, some of those guys are getting too extreme for me .

LSOHOLIC, from out your way, will be joining me for a rental in Marshalls honor - November at ATCO we plan to run his Z Vs my coupe!

03 and 04 option was Magnetic Selective Ride Control (F55), two selections and is different from the F45. Z51 is also different and not adjustable.

When I was test driving C5's two years ago, the 98 coupe had the F45 option and it worked. You could feel the difference. My 99 worked up until a few months ago, but after 15 years the shocks leaked, the car lowered and started scraping all over the place.

I switched and installed the Z51 sway bars/Moog end links. The I took it to my Vette mechanic who installed Bilstein Z51 Sport shocks and programmed out the F45 from the computer.

It was $2600 to replace the F45 shocks, I did the upgrade above and spent less than $1200 installed.

The Z51 handling package is tighter, more responsive than my F45, and equal to or better than my 04 CE with Magnetic Select Ride option. I've had the 99 C5 in the shop getting some paint fixed that went goofy after a repair 9 months ago or I'd give you a more definitive review.

But it'll be back at the end of next week, so email me if you want a review of Z51 vs MSR suspension and handling.

Jim

Wish I would have read this thread 2 days ago... My pcm is on its way back from ECS right now
Could have had them remove that.

Print the instructions from the forum and have your local dealer remove the f45 option.
Took 20 minutes and $50 for me.

I have this option on my 2001. To tell the truth, there is very little difference in ride quality between the settings. I can feel more of a difference in hard cornering. I added C6 Z51 sways, poly bushings and metal end links. This made more of a difference than the shock settings. At the point in time I replace the shocks, I'll go with the C6Z shocks and program out the F45 setup.
