Well I have a stock 03 Z and my bro just picked up a 03 Z yesterday. His car is cammed with a fast 102 and a 102mm throttle body on a speed density tune. The cam is less than .600 lift(i dont remember the exact specs on it) also the car has unknown brand LT's into the factory Ti exhaust including the cats. The car vibrates a LOT or at least more than I would like.
My question is is there something wrong with the car or do all the cammed cars have such a big degree of vibration over stock. I have ridden and driven other cammed LS cars(not a Vette) before and the vibration and rattle/noise wasnt such a huge difference over stock.
I just want to know that if I cam my car(I really plan to) will it vibrate rattle and be so noisy compared to stock. If so I won't cam the car because I dont want the ride to be so much worse.
He is going to have the tune looked at at and probably going to put a MAF back on it and get rid of the speed density tune. Also I think there is a serious exhaust leak. Maybe all of this will help with the rideability.
I am a H/C/I car and my car vibrated and rocks around when idling. not an issue for me, I just got used to it after a while. I like how aggressive it is. my cam is .620/ .586 on a 112+4
engine vibration or drivetrain? if the clutch was changed and it's drivetrain that would be my first suspect
if it's engine it's probably the way the cam is designed. if it smooths out as you rev it up it could just be a cam with a good deal of overlap. a 110-112LSA could induce a bit of idle vibration
I believe his cam is on a 114 with +2 overlap. I haven't driven his car but I really want to so that I can determine if it is the car or if it just evens out while I drive it. Thanks for all the input guys.
If it's a vibration, something's not right. But, if the idle is just rough, and the engine shakes or bounces as it's idling that's normal. How is it compared to other cammed cars?
Look at the Data Logger and see if the Timing is jumping up and down at idle, My car did that when I got it and it would shake the car pretty bad because of it

I think that it is much worse than the other cammed cars that I have ridden in and driven. Its certainly worse than his 02 SS that just got totaled(reason he got the Z).
I agree that something isn't right, but he won't listen to me...not my problem. Well atleast I know that when I cam my car as long as things are "right" I won't have the issues that he is having.
Possible he is going to have it looked at soon. Also we learned that there is a HUGE vaccum leak. A vaccum line is completely gone. Its the one from the passenger side head that goes to the intake and puts "unmetered" air into the engine. Atleast thats how it was explaine to me..its obvious its missing and he is replacing it tomorrow. That also may help! And a re-tune is scheduled also.
