I picked up my low mileage vert last fall and am anxious to go to the mountains this summer.
Replacing the orig tires with pilot ps2 zp. Should help with road noise from the ancient tires on it today.
I would like to replace the radio with a satellite radio, perhaps replace the speakers and thinking about sound deadening for when driving the boring interstates
What have you folks done and did the sound deadening really help?
Also feel free to recommend a radio. Want easy to read, blue tooth compatible, etc.
I own a Z06...I'm sound deadening-less by choice...lol. Road trips are my thinking time personally. Studies show that breakthroughs are most often the result of boredom. Occupying your mind only allows less creative thought. Drive in silence and allow your mind to expand and come up with the idea that buys you the next Corvette...that's my vote...that's how I roll.

We have a 2001 vert that has a 3-1/2 hour oneway commute. It used to be 5-1/2 hours. Replaced the PS2 with V12s because of the noise. Didnt do the sound deadning thing beacuse we get more top noise than anything else, and that really isnt that bad. It is a vert and should expect some. Top down negates all the sound deadening anyway. Had worse. I couldnt bring myself to mod the interior enough to stick in a new head unit. Didnt seem like it was worth the time and effort without getting rid of the whole Bose Business. Did stick an XM Sirus receiver in the glovebox. Still waiting for the ISimple to work with the lightning plug sans adaptors. Hate pulling the phone out of the case to plug it in. When that happens I will install one of them also. Good for charger/hands free/GPS/Spotify/pandora. Blaa blaa blaa.
As is quite frequently brought up. Its your car. Do what works for you. This is what I did and its optimum for me. 7 hour round trip 2-3 times a month through 3 radio markets. Enjoying the hell out of it. Dont see getting over that anytime soon.

Thanks, how did you connect your xm sirus receiver to the bose system? Sorry if this is an obvious question. I am a bit of a noob.

FM Modulator thingy. Goes in the antenna lead behind the radio. Obviously with GM you also have to purchase the coax adaptors. I like the ISimple idea better, As I understand it, there are others. This is a direct feed using the radio's aux selection from the multi CD player in the trunk. When I went in to have an adaptor to do this installed, the one they claimed over the phone that would fit the Vette. Didn't. The antenna interruption was a Plan B. It works really well and I'm in no hurry to change it until I can get an IPhone 5 ISimple.
Watch on the XM Sirus website, a lot of times they will have free receivers when you sign on an account.
We hard wired in the power adaptor and hid all the cabling. Won't even know it's there until you open the glove box. Mounted to the left side so a person can reach it from the driver's seat. As I said, I like it. It works well. Mine is a fairly basic model.
Gotta add...
When we mounted the XM antenna the first time we located it under the dash like the other 99.99 percent of the C5 corvettes out there. Mine, when we were driving heading north, the XM wouldn't work. The only thing we could think was there was enough metal in the Front windshield cage and the metal in the top's bows was enough to interfere with the antenna. not sure. We relocated it to a small fabricated bracket mounted to the hinge on the real cowling right under the outer skin..... works fine.
Put the new tires on last Friday and got to drive a bit over the weekend - wow - what a difference! It is like driving a new car Doubt I will opt for sound deadening.
Below is a link to my thread on my convertible interior upgrade I performed in 2011. It lists the parts, process and results.
With exception to replacing my original run-flat tires, my interior upgrade was the best mod I performed in terms of making the cabin more comfortable. When driving top down, it really doesn't matter, however the stereo sounds better. The real improvement is when I drive with the top up, which I often do on long expressway drives. The road noise is muffled and the new (better than OEM) stereo helps as well. Even if I have the stereo off, the cabin sound is much improved.
Since this build in 2011, I have since added a Corsa X-pipe and thermal tunnel plate which further reduced noise while stiffening the chassis.
Yeah Ventus all the way, then of course really loud exhaust then replace all speakers add a custom 15" sub box and you can't even tell your on a road!!....plus with the top up the blue tooth hands free speaker works fairly well!!
Speak to Dennis at double D mods, and he will ge tyou exactly everything you need!!!
I added a sub in a stealth box to the center cubby. IMO it made a huge difference to the stock Bose setup and took nothing away from the trunk for travelling. I do need to add sound deadening material to the door panels as they now rattle! Talk to Dennis about different options.
Just put on the Ipod connection and enjoy your music through the factory system. It works fine. I put the sound barrier for convertibles and FRC cars in between tne teunk area and the folding top area. Works great.
