Meme is an adaption of the word "Gene" (like DNA) and refers to an idea or tradition that flows through culture and society instead of genetics.

Long story short in common usage, its like an inside joke between everyone on the internet. Usually quirky phrases on photos and reoccurring lines and joke patterns. For example: "Do _____ they said, it would be fun they said".
