Ok, Before I tell what happened let me first state that I know it was not the smartest thing to do, and I expect some flaming, But I feel like I need to share.
Well here I go, I had decided to take the Vette out for a spin, for the most part I have a normal route that I take when going for a quick spin and unless I have somewhere to go I stick to it, \
I had left the house and been out riding for a little while and was on the way back home, anyway I had just got back on the interstate and noticed that I was the only car within site, Totaly clear, (I thought)
so after shifting up through the gears I decided to slow it down so I could down shift to 2nd and run it through the gears, again after looking and making sure that I was alone I slowed down to a creep and shifted into 2nd and after once again looking around I opened her up, (I never look at my gauges, for the most part I pay attention to my shift light) so I never really knew how fast I was going, I ran her up to 63 or 6400 then went into 3rd and did the same,
after hitting 4th I kept her pegged, but just for a few seconds, then got out of it, slowed her down and set the cruise at the speed limit (still no one in sight) I carried on for 4 miles or so, Took my exit and was tooling along.
Guess What, Blue Lights are the next thing I see in the mirror, I of course slow to a stop on the side of the road at a closed gas station, shut down the car and roll my window down and a State Highway patrol officer walks up to my car,
he asked me to exit my vehicle, I of course did what was requested, He then asked me for all the normal stuff which I gave him. at this point (while he was being very friendly) began to tell me that he had clocked me at 128 MPH, MY JAW DROPPED,
I knew I opened her up, But it was for such a brief amount of time that I didnt know what to think. Of course I imedietly began to try and explain to him what I was doing and that I was just blowing her out for a few seconds, But honestly
I was ready to go to jail. He went on to explain to me that what I did was not very smart and that it could land me into some serious trouble, but then he went on to say that he understood owning a fast car does lead to some temptation,
I was completly floored, I was expecting to be handcuffed at this point, He then went on to tell me that he also owns a Corvette and wanted to know if I would show him what all had been done to my car, Of course I opened the hood and showed him all the mods I had made and explained everything.
We stood there and talked for almost 45 minutes talking about Corvettes, Not long after that, another cruiser showed up (I knew it was over then) But the other officer was also a sports car fan, by the time it was all said and done I was there almost an hour and a half. He finaly told me you know your car stands out like a sore thumb and you might want to find another spot to open her up from now on. I was BLOWN away. I have never in my life had such luck. he ended up giving me his phione number and asked if I wanted to go cruising with him and some of his friends some time, Which of course I said YES.
Now I know it was not the smartest thing to do, But I have to say I was one LUCKY SOB.
And heck everyone has had to do this at least once if you own a Vette, Just not get Busted
Anyway I consider myself one lucky son of a gun.

I would think a good majority on this site have been guilty of "opening it up" at one point or another myself included. So don't feel bad in that regard. Be thankful for the outcome and live to Corvette another day.

Not going to get any sympathy here - just a good thing you ran into a very "understanding" State Trooper. But, I can't say I've never gone into triple digits in the car.
Even a blind hog finds an acorn occasionally. Very luck. Remember the little rascals. One of them was asked by his teacher, make a sentence out of the word ismus. He thought for a minute and replied, ismus be my lucky day. I believe that fits you to a tee.
I was clocked at 155 one night in my Firebird, last time it ever saw the street, now it is just a race car. We've all gotten lucky from time to time. He let me leave without a ticket, I took the car off the street. He thought I had stolen the car, 2am on the NJTPK and only one other truck on the road......... Coasted a long time letting him catch-up to me.
all I am gonna say is I saw the guy hit me with the radar and I could see his eyes get real big....when he walked up to the car he said and I quote, "I heard the blower whine and I got wood"......
then he ask me to pop the hood etc....I won't say what he clocked me at or anything else
I recently had an experience with a state trooper that blew me away. While tooling up 295 at the speed limit within a group of cars. We came up on a Maryland State Trooper parked on the side of the road. I am in the rear of the traffic. So as we pass the trooper pulls out behind me follows me for about four miles. By this time most of the other traffic has exited or slowed way down because of the trooper. Just as I am thinking is he going to pull me over, he come around to my left, pulls up next to me, rolls his window down and starts waving his hand like to go faster. I roll my window down to hear what he is saying. He was telling me to "floor it". I was shocked I only revved it so he could here it. He waved again to run it. By that time I was coming up on my exit, enter the exit and came to red light. The trooper pulled up next me and we started talking. We pulled over and talked for about 1/2 an hour. Similar to the OPs experience he asks me to show him what I've done to my car. Turned out he also was a corvette owner.
My girlfriend lives one city over about an hour away. I usually drive out there at night when there is no one on the interstate. It's SO tempting to floor it every time. I know the moment I do, a trooper will be hiding somewhere, and he'll be a ford guy. Maybe I could tell him about my old mustang? haha
Great to see we still have cops that are people and not quick to judge. you did what you did but no one was around. If you do that in traffic any one of us would be in jail. Great story.
