Anybody know a vendor that offers a true plug & play led bulb for the C5 underhood light. No additional mods, no soldering,no bending of tabs. A true replacement bulb.
The under hood light that superbrightled.com sells does not work. I bought one and it doesn't fit. The first issue is that the hoops on the light that are supposed to connect to the posts on the hood are too small so they wont' fit. The second issue is that the hoops are horizontal to the lights whereas they need to be vertical. If anyone else knows of a good replacement I'd like to know.
it's a type 211-2 or 212-2 bulb. Just look on ebay for 212-2 LED
I looked up that bulb on Ebay. to me that looks like the bulbs I used to replace on my rearview mirror. The original bulbs on my underhood light have a U shaped connector on each end.The LED replacement bulb I recieved from a certain vendor on the forum came with V shaped connectors on the ends.I ruined the ends on the original housing trying to get them to fit. Still looking for the right bulb.

Don't know what to say. The pointy end of the LED fit right in where the U shaped wire on the OEM bulb was. The LED DOES have to be the correct length. There are variations in the 212 bulbs from 38-42mm...

What's the OA length of your original? I'm thinking you may be looking for a replacement for a # 561 style bulb. Approx 43.5 mm OAL.
superbrightleds sells a nine LED version. Available in different colors as well, including "warm white" if you don't want that "clinical" blue-white "doctor's office look" of typical "white" LEDs.

I can't give you the dimensions but I can tell you that the light sold on superbrightled.com does not work/fit. See my post above for a brief explanation.

I bought one from superbrightled.com and it fit, with some twisting of the ends.

1. I was responding to the OP's (demon81) query, hence the reason for my quoting him.
2. Did you click the link I provided? Do you know what the old bulb number is? There are more than one LED bulb sold for these festoon (oblong-shaped) style bulbs.

The problem seems to be that the LEDs are limited in the direction their light travels to about 130-160 degrees (~) due to being attached to a flat circuit board, and the socket design means that they wind up being oriented 90 degrees off when inserted into the bulb socket. The original 561 bulbs, being incandescent, radiates their light output in a 360 degree radius, so when plugged in the light still shines in all directions.
Did you use (and twist the loops) of something like these by any chance? These seem to have enough "loop" to be able to maybe use a couple needle-nosed pliers to twist them 90 degrees.

That's what I did I twisted the loops., be gentile.
I just purchased a 18 LED flat panel and going to solder on spades and give this a try.

This is the only replacement bulb they recommended for under the hood so I was not aware that there were more than one part # that I could order. Partial ignorance on my part. I ordered it but could not twist the ends to make it fit. I may have been able to bend the contact on the light housing but I'd rather not modify the housing to fit a bulb that isn't the right fit.
