I am on my way tomorrow, July 18, to Detroit Michigan from Salt Lake City, to buy my first Vette, a BLK/BLK 2002 Z06. I'm so excited, I may vomit. I think $4000 off ain't bad, especially since new 2002 Z06's seem to be getting few and far between. I will definitely enjoy the ride home. I will try and take some back roads, not all freeway, to properly break it in. I am glad to finally be joining the Corvette ownership brigade, especially the Z06 owners club. Wish me luck, as I will not be able to sleep tonight.
Man - a member for over 700 days and 3 posts - you are patient :)
Congrat's on the purchase, no doubt in my mind you will love it. Back roads for break in are nice, the key is to keep the RPM from holding at one spot very long for the 1st 500 miles, not an issue for most of us :)
Congratulations and welcome to the club .. (and the forum). Your plan for taking back roads is a good one. That's what I did on my maiden voyage from Joliet IL to home in Evansville, IN, (about 350 miles). Getting off the big highways made the trip very enjoyable, since I was able to vary speed and RPM without antagonizing every other driver on the road. Also, going thru a bunch of smal towns was a great opportunity to break in the brakes, go thru the gears, and return waves from a variety of pedestrians. All in all, a great trip.
I'm assuming you're familiar with the break-in process ... vary speed and rpm, don't push anything too hard, gradually increase the rpms over time, etc. About the only thing that's not obvious is to avoid any hard stops for the first 200 miles or so, to give the brake pads a chance to glaze a bit. Also, occasionally give the car some throttle, then release the throttle and let the engine pull the car's speed down .. this helps to create even wear patterns on the 'back' sides of all the gears. Do this in all the gears, if you can.
Welcome to the Corvette family, Vette Lag! :D You sure started at a great place on your first Corvette! The ZO6 is an awesome car. I'm also partial to Black Corvettes! :yesnod:
Gladl you found CorvetteForum.Com. This is a great place to hang around with folks who know and love the only sports car that matters!
