How do you define "best"? What are you looking for? Straight-line traction? Road course work? Street only? Track only?
Toyo R888s will offer more traction, but will be worse in rain and will wear quickly. Give us more info on your requirements.
Street use. I drive to work in the morning and they break loose real easy even with traction control on. it's like the reaction time of t/c is too slow. So the biggest factor for me is straight line traction.
how old are they? if they are over 4 years old or have been heat cycled a few times at the track traction falls off
the cheap, sticky tire for oem wheels is the nitto nt05
if you care about traction you have to replace your tires every 4 years max, 2-3 years would be better
Thanks for the tire age info. Never was an issue before but the previous owner only drove 2-3k miles per year. Other people recommended Nitto's too, so that's what I will get.
Michelin Pilot Sports are VERY good tires. Yours must definitely be aged too much. No way you should be losing traction with a relatively stock vehicle.
this is what the tire date code looks like. the code pictured is the 27th week of 2004
check yours, see where they are
Holy crap! my tires are 11 years old. No wonder! I almost put it in the ditch last fall while shifting into 2nd gear. I figured it was just too much motor, but it is probably not enough tire. My motor is a stock Z06 with a blackhawk air cleaner. Discount Tire will do a set of Nitto NT05's for $950, so I will probably go with them unless I can find a better deal.
I appreciate your help in solving my problem. It will be a while before I will know the results because I live in Minnesota and it is still winter.
Geezus! Had to be as hard as plastic. Must have been like driving one of these again...
Hah! that's a good one. Not too far off though. In first gear, forget it, If I stood on it, it would just light em up until the traction control kicked in. I'm thinking the new tires should make a huge difference.

Dude mine were the second set of F1's on my car and were 7 years old and the same thing happened to me. About 4-6 years has been experience when the tires have aged out and need replaced. And that is with the car always garaged. More like 3-4 years if the car stays outside much and is exposed to extreme hot and cold summers and winters.

I should probably get date codes when I buy the new tires. If you buy tires that have been sitting in the warehouse for three years, you could be buying new tires after one season of use.

Mine is like that on two-year-old BFG KDW2s... but I'm not stock

I went with Nitto NT05's in stock sizes on stock wheels. Traction is a lot better than 11 year old Michelins. I can actually use "competitive driving mode" with more confidence. Going 1-2 generates a little wheelspin (and wheel hop) then hooks ups quickly. Launching from a dead stop is something that I have not tried yet. What RPM would be best?
I hear that the Fast and Furious guy that met his maker, may have been a victim of "old tires". So, thanks to Corvette Forum and you guys that gave me good info.
