I have a pair of mtx 9512's and thinking of using one in my vette but I don't think I have enough room to invert it. I was thinking maybe I could build a box that uses the entire package tray and making it level with the divider hump. Giving about 5" more depth then*countersinking the amps into it counter sunk with removable covers to hide them. Haven't crunched any numbers yet and if I do it would be mostly fiberglass to help keep the weight down and still get maximum volume for the box. Also counter sink the sub enough to make a cover that when in place the entire thing will be flush and hidden as well as protected when i need to throw anything back there. I wonder if anyone's done it. I would like to look at all the options.
I want to be able tro still store my targa top also. Maybe the nitrous bottle as well
you're better off with a good 8 or at most a 10 if you want it to sound half way decent. a full flush box is only .8 cubic feet which can do, usually, a ported 8 or sealed 10. if you put a 12 in that box size it's going to pop the 50h-60z range and fall off hard under that.
couple commonly used subs are the JL 10w3v3, the kicker L5 solobaric 8" and the image dynamics ID8 or JL 8w3v3
46"x41"x5 additional airspace beyond the standard flush mount cubby hole box should help it out quite a bit. Jeff lubbers is a hell of a box builder. But uses mdf on his builds. Im leaning more towards fiberglass hybrid to utilize all the space.

that's a huge box. 5.45 cu/ft on outside dimensions. if you use a box that size in a car with a good 12 you'll have an insane low end response. may not sound that accurate but it will move you. 20-30hz will be extremely strong.
in a car you usually don't need boxes that big since you have cabin gain helping out
That is just what I have above and beyond the .6-.7 cf in the cubby. Not that it will all be needed but at least I know what I hve to work with. Still have to deduct for the amp mount and the two small cubby locations.
These are some of what jeff does
