I guess it depends on how dirty it is...mine just appeared to be a little dusty in spots with no visible oil. So, I just vacuumed it off and painted it black with about 2-3 coats of black spray paint. There are some threads in here somewhere if you really feel you need to wash it...but be careful it felt really delicate to me when I had it off the car.
