Default Instrument readout

not sure how else to describe it.

1996 C5, DUH... 1999

The car is stuck on "odometer" meaning I cannot check miles, mileage or anything else. Any ideas on how to fix or what to replace?

At one time, I could press things a few times and it would finally show what I wanted. Last time, notified me when time for oil change.. this time after 8,000 miles, I went ahead and changed oil to be safe.

Someone please help.

You can email me at bigdog57@charter.net if you wish.. thanks

The C-5 was 1997 -2004, there are no 1996 C-5s.

Does the DIC display show Corvette by Chevrolet at startup?

Can you use the DIC switch and have it show anything different than odometer?

If I understand the problem, the DIC is stuck on showing how many miles are on the car and you can't access the other features such as oil temp, avg mileage, trip readouts, etc.

Could be the DIC control panel (located on the right side if the instrument cluster) has gone bad. Would be worth checking that out. The control panel has 5 or 6 buttons you push to control what the DIC displays. The buttons are marked E/M, Trip, Reset, etc.

of course it is a 1999 and a C5.. sorry too early in the morning. I have tried all the buttons on the display short/metric, trip, fuel and nothing is working. Talked to my local mechanic who has several Corvettes but not sure what the problem is. Is the DIC easy to replace?

This is exactly what I am seeing. What would need to replaced here, how hard and how expensive is it? Thanks for your replies.....

It is either the DIC switch or the IPC. I would try seeing if replacing the switch works first. Not a real hard DIY to get to but it is involved. Here is one link:

That link is how to remove the instrument panel which includes the DIC switch. The switch unplugs from the IPC and then can be easily removed.

You may want to PM me with your phone number so we can discuss and you can better understand. You can do this and save hundreds of dollars. I have helped several total car novices to do this and even pull the entire dash off to get to the HUD with 100% success so far.

Unfortunately your going to have to pull the cluster out in order to get the DIC switch out as the trim bezel is screwed to the cluster itself from behind so no way get to it unless you pull the cluster.
I would toss my vote in for trying that first too. It may be even something as simple as the plug not being seated correctly.
