Need some help. I had this recall taken care of 2 years ago by a Chevy dealer in my area. Last year the code came up again and chevy says that the wiring harness was bad. Now got my vette out again and it did the same thing! It lasted 2,000 miles the first time and 1,500 this time. Is the dealer doing something wrong?
Your the one doing something wrong. Namely taking it to the dealer. They CANNOT provide you a permanent fix but they can provide themselves a permanent source of income from you.
GM Has NEVER had a permanent fix to the column lock symptoms. Only permanent solution is an aftermarket CLB or LMC5.
THOUSANDS of posts here on the forum about the C5 Column lock problem. Apparently you haven't read much here. Just noticed this is your first post. Take some time to read some post and you will find that there are few NEW C5 problems reported here. Just old ones that are new to the poster who has not spent any time reading some of the sticky's at the top of the Tech Forum. Here is one on the Column Lock:
Read the first page and then go to the last page. Then back up a dozen or so pages and begin reading.
Battery is the most common cause of the column lock symptoms. Weak or bad battery or loose or corroded battery connections including the one at the starter.
Start there and then get and install a CLB or LMC5 and your problems are gone once and for all.
I have a 2001. Installed the bypass, no issues. As stated, you'll find plenty of posts on the subject.
8VETTE7 has it covered. Get a column lock bypass (CLB) or the LMC5 device and no more worries about a column lock.
I took it a step further.....I took the "lock ring" out of the steering column, chucked it in a lathe, and cut off the OD of the ring, where the locking detents are, then reinstalled it. NO WAY it can lock up.....
If you have a 2001 - 2004 automatic transmission then your car is NOT exposed to the column lock problem. If the car is an any year manual transmission C5 then it WILL eventually experience the Column Lock Symptoms unless you install a CLB or LMC5. Same for the 1997 - 2000 automatic transmission. GM NEVER has had a solution that is permanent. They want to milk you dry by having you come back every year or so.......

So if GM has already done there "fix" can I still install the CLM or LMC5?
