Don't you feel that most C5 corvette parts are much more expensive then some of the earlier models even since it's been almost 15 years since the birth of the C5 after so many parts produced and factory and aftermarket competitors I think that's why we seem to come up with our own home made mods necessity is the mother of all invention

In a lot of cases the parts are expensive, but I've said that about every generation Corvette I've had (C3, C4, and C5).

Compared to a C3 or C4, not really.
Furthermore, Corvette C5 parts are cheaper than for any other sports car out there. It was one of the main reasons I bought a C5 instead of a similarly priced early 2000 Porsche 911. I didn't even know about the IMS bearing failures back then. Whew, dodged a bullet on that one!

Corvette tax! I came to C5's from F-bodies and I have to agree... some of the prices make me want to grind my teeth knowing what the F-body equivalent costs...

Part of the problem is the low production numbers of the Corvette, which limits the potential sales of replacement parts for the producers. And it's not just the Corvette. I have a 95 Impala SS. The door panels were junk in these cars. None available from GM and most of the ones you find for sale used are only marginally better than what you are trying to replace (especially the drivers side panel) and they still command $200 and up. What's worse for Impala owners, we have to compete with owners of Caprice's that are wanting to clone their cars into looking like an SS.

C6 of Year Finalist (appearance mods) 2019
The words "Corvette" and "Cheap Parts" don't go in the same sentence.
