Hello all, this is my first post and was looking to see what people are thinking. I've had my C5 Z06 daily driver for a little under a year now, and I'm absolutely loving it!

Ever since I was young I've loved the curve of Corvettes and have always wanted one. After being accepted into a highly competitive program in the United States Coast Guard I finally had the means to buy one.

Although I was looking for a white Corvette, this Z was in my budget and I just couldn't pass it up!

So far I've plasti-dipped the rims matte black (from chrome), had the bezel modified to fit the nav system, added a sub to the trunk, installed LED's, and some other interior mods.

I'm still looking into installing a set of LG Street Headers and maybe a cam if I find the time/money . And I'm looking into getting the CV-G spoiler from carid, but it seems a little pricey to me.

Has anyone had any experience with any of these mods, and if so what do you think?

What do you plan to do with the car?
Just doing a cam and headers will increase your HP, but unless you plan on tracking the car, other than bragging rights, why bother?
Add the spoiler if you plan on doing some really high speed off road stuff, if you don't, just buy a box of rice. Your life would be a lot easier if you want added horsepower, find a LS-7 (or even a LS-3), than going the cam etc route..

 

We actually don't think much around here. A little bitching now and then is about it.

As far as mods and go fast? Not my thing really. After winning 1st place in a car show last year in the stock class I'm afraid to do anything else. So I guess I'm done.

I take that back. I did some upgrades to my sound system this spring and Saturday I put some sound proof in my wheel wells.

Now I'm done until I can afford a new paint job.

I am planning on going to the track every once in a while once everything slows down, plus I love the sound of a nice cam .

As for the spoiler, normally I'd agree with you and say I'm better off adding neon to the bottom of my car, but ever since I saw another vette with it, I think it looked awesome! It's not one of those big ones that distracts from the normal flow of the car.

And there is no way that I'd have the time and money for an engine swap, although it'd be bad azz!

 

Sound proof the wheel wells? I know that the previous owner put dynamat in the car, but I've never heard of sound proofing the wheel wells?

 

A few of us have done it. I got the idea researching sound proofing and it led me to a thread back here.

Sound proofing is actually a misstated phrase because you can't really sound proof anything, especially with the material they sell as sound proofing.

What you're really trying to do is deaden the vibrations caused by road and tire noise etc.

A huge part of the sound, especially in a hardtop vette such as ours, is coming in through the wheel well from the tires and the road.

Some people have done it differently than I did but this is what I did.

Took off the wheel well shrouds and sprayed boom mat (liquid) on all the parts behind the shrouds. Then I had some GT mat left over from my doors, and my Mustang project, and I put one long piece running from end to end of the shroud.

Then I sprayed some more boom mat liquid on the parts I didn't put the GTMat on.

It didn't remove the noise, but even my wife who hates the sound of my car, agreed it did in fact help quite a bit.

Next year I may put some less aggressive mufflers on it and buy some quieter tires, but for now, it is definitely an improvement. I'm also going to have the underside rust proofed, because actually there's not much difference in the spray sound deadener and rust proofing material. Getting rid of the vibrations caused by the road and exhaust is the goal.

 

Hmm, pretty smart. I'll have to look into that as well!

It's custom made. I got together with an old friend that built one in the past and we put it together. It's basically cut MFD board with the Wal-Mart carpet glued on it. The amp is underneath it.

Install a carbon fiber front spoiler and side skirts. Add Kooks headers with X pipe and Corsa Extreme catback with a good tune. After that look at your checkbook and see if there's anything left; if so, continue on, there's no stopping point.

 

Nice car and good job on the first post. Most of us had to take a night school course on how to post pictures.

Mods are all personal things. The items you mention sound good to me, but many others may not like them. The main thing is to keep from going too far with either the engine or appearance. That can detract from what you bought the car for.
