Default C5Z or Base C6 as a DD

Im ready to retire my DD, which is my beloved built G8 GT. She will be a garage queen like my C6Z once I get the paint corrected on her. Now im in search of another DD. Itll either be a base C6 non GS or a C5 Z. Idc about the gas mileage, since im getting sh*tty gas mileage now. Im really more concerned about performance if I decide to mod the car (Im assuming I would). Which car would have better gains? Which car would essentially be an overall better car? I somewhat know what im already expecting from a base C6, but how bout the C5Z? Dont really know that much about the LS6 engines nor C5Z for that matter.

Thought?

depends on what you want

mpg is similar

c5z has better suspension out of the box, feels more nimble

c6 has a more modern appearance, a targa top, will do better with potholes and rough roads, better headlights, better seats

c5z all else equal should be a little cheaper, is a little faster than an ls2 car

really it's a pros/cons list, write out what you want

bout the same either way

it's really a personal call on which options matter more to you, and, well, the price

decent c5z is 15-18k an 06-07 c6 in good shape will be +5k

Money wasn't an issue when I bought my car between c5z and c6. C5z was a better fit for me based on looks and that racecar feel it provides. The c6 seemed dull in comparison. Couldn't be happier with my choice.

c6 felt too big to me when I test drove it. The one I test drove even had a cam in it and I wasnt impressed with the overall feel of the car. Maybe if it would have had the z51 package, that would have been different.

I like the c5z because it was cheaper, and proven to be bulletproof (minus the valvespring issues 02-03, I bought 04), and had a PASSION you could feel that went into the car's production.

Can you guys point me to known issues of the c5z.. Theres a C5Z 2 miles away from where I live. Low miles.. less than 20k for 16-18k . Not bad imo. I cant find a decent C6 for less than 25k and low miles.

As a DD I would definitely pick the C6 over a C5Z... More creature comforts for everyday.. heated seats.. NAVI, much better headlights.. targa top to switch things up in summer.. ride is quite a bit softer.. slightly better seats.

maintenance should be similar on similar mileage cars.

C5Z is more bang for the buck out of the box. Faster in a straight line for sure, and should be faster than an LS2 C6 around a track also.

that's under auction price for mileage that low

links?

there are no known issues besides the valve springs which are cheap to replace and the plastic trim around the windows leaks with age

I DD a C5Z, the base C6 looks don't do anything for me. Never even considered it because the slick looks of the FRC.

If I weren't going to track my car and it was just a DD, I'd have a C6. It's much more livable as a street car. If price doesn't matter, I would get an LS3 / Z51 car just to have the better engine and slightly sportier suspension.

GS replaced Z51 in 2010, but the LS3 was in all base Corvettes too from 08-13, not just the sportier models

I agree 100%. I test drove an LS2 car before driving the C5Z. It was nice, felt fast...But it didn't have that feel that I wanted. It was too refined and comfortable. Yeah, the seats were cushy, the headlights were great. But it just felt sluggish and heavy, like driving my old 96 B-Body Impala! As soon as I got out on the road in the C5Z, I could hear it begging to be driven like a $2 hooker. No excuses, not trying to be a world class luxury touring car...Just that ***** to the wall, racecar feel. I fell in love with it. (I think my age has something to do with that...(27)).

That being said, I would never DD MY C5Z for fear of it getting dirty and beaten up by rocks and idiot-drivers. The C6 would be a better DD in my opinion, if comfort is your thing.
