As said above, pull and post your codes. Without them it would be a guess of dozens of reasons.

Yes, it is a problem, soon to be a larger problem. I just had my '01 Z06 towed to dealer - quoted $1700 just to replace one module they suspect, but cannot guarantee is problem. Now unable to access any codes. I have lost the Thread that succinctly covered this. Also had steering lock, Service ABS notice just prior to lock up and then suddenly unable to drive car. Act on it NOW before it gets to a total disable. I have all sorts of mixed input, GM dealer has no clue, is just guessing. These are repetitive problems from C5 and forward in many models. GM needs come clean. Confusion and cost estimates vary widely. Will research and complete myself. Best of luck to any of you also experiencing these problems.

You really need a OBD-2 code reader. I bought on at the auction site, $17.00 and it doesn't look like much, but it reads the PoXoXoX codes just fine. I have learned my lesson about OBD system cars. Ya gotta pull the codes to get anywhere ! you could have a one bad shock, or something less drastic. But your not going to know if it's a shock issue or a EBCM if you don't pull the codes. There are some pretty sharp minds here who are more than willing to help, and will, but they need to know what the module is recording before they can help you.

Are you kidding me? You've been on CF for how long and you don't know about this?

No offence intended just disbelief...

Thanks to you and always appreciate the collective brilliance among members. GM dealer shop unable to pull codes. Doubt I will be able. They were just stumbling along trying anything they could. Were able to unlock system to allow steering. Was a total shut down. They experimented and succeeded in doing a "by-pass". Wanted to replace BCM and then go step by step, uncertain where they may be led. I live a state away so just rented a trailer and hauled car home to consider options.

Just wanted to caution members not to ignore or assume warnings may be temporary or harmless. I had one flash of multiple check warnings and then a steering lock up. Car starts and runs great but shuts down if try to drive, as it should with so many malfunctions. Seattle GM dealer had no clue what to do. I will try my local Portland GM shop where I bought the car.

Thanks again!

As said above, pull your codes up on the DIC. OB2 scanner just reads emission codes.

You may be fully versed on the issue seeing as you've been with the forum for a couple years, but are you saying you had the steering column lock up on you, and also experienced the 2mph shutoff?

If that's all that you are having issues with and you aren't familiar with that particular issue, you really might want to do some more searching around this forum to save yourself some money.

I might be misunderstanding what you are trying to say, and by no means am I close to as knowledgeable on this subject as many of the other guys on here, but if that is what you are having issues with you could have much easier and cheaper options available to you to get your Vette working just fine.

Try running a few searches about the column lock issues if that's the case and definitely don't pay $1700 for that.

Also, check this out to see if there is anything that makes sense to your issue.

ITS ALL GOOD.... I cleared the code when it happened ( just as I was about to park it for the night )

I took it for a long drive today, where I parked up and then headed off...at least 6 times...and the code/message never came back.

I had turned off traction control a number of times that night..so??

But so far so good...

How old is your battery? A slightly weak, old battery can give you this problem. Many things can cause problem, weak battery (car will start) bad EBCM, wrong crush washers (aluminum instead of copper) on SS brake lines, etc.

If that code ever turns into a hard fail, it's the brake pedal switch, which is a relatively easy/cheap part to replace.

But as Phanni said, possible bad battery.
