I'm looking at getting a 2002 Z06 from a dealer for $22-23K. It has a high comp racing cam in it. I've read to big of a cam makes it run like crap.He don't know exactly how big it is?I heard a video of it,and it sound bad a@@!But that doesn't mean i'll like driving it?I'm to far away to test drive it.He's going to ask his engine guy, what size he thinks the cam is??Then I'll let you guy's know.Should I stand clear of this car??It has 59K miles but has many upgrades!!
You can find a stock Z06 for a better price. Get something you can drive first and can modify if you choose. That way you aren't buying someone else's potential problems.

If it was me…I'd want to know more. Lot of garbage cammed set ups out there, and always safe to assume the previous owner traded it in/sold it for a reason.
How many miles on mods?
Cam? Which? lift/duration? Part #
Lifters/trays?
Pushrods?
Rockers?
Springs/retainers? Were they set up(install height, coil bind checked)? Steel or Ti?
Tune? Who?
Etc etc….If they can't answer some of these simple things, no way in hell Im paying a dealer premium for that car. Got my 04z bone stock for $20k with 16k less miles. Just as a reference. Cream puff/waxer previous owner.
You can get a lot of trouble free/beat the snot out the car miles with a cammed car…but Id want to know it was set up well from the get go. With that car…Id want the details or Id be prepared to go over it on my own dime after purchase, to get the details.
Call me OCD but thats me

If you guy's go to Auto Elite Group Inc.Find the 2003 Black Z06 and there is a video that say's cam video. If you scroll down to the bottom of the cars page. Can you tell just by the Idol??It sounds mean as hell!!But I don't know who built it? and what set up it has.Im still trying to get a ball park idea what cam is in it??Still risky to me??
Not to mention a guy who was in the oil business built it himself????I dunno that's not something im willing to gamble 23K on.That's just me?Thank for your feed back!!Im going to keep on looking!!!
IMHO, I would go for a totally stock Z06. Too many variables on unknown installation quality of the cam, etc. which can translate into headaches.
Good Luck.
Your absolutely thinking what I'm thinking? But I do love this year Z06. Seems to be the best bang for the buck. I've been researching vettes for months and the LS6 seems way ahead of it's time??I mean there just now making faster and better performing base vettes!!12 years later!!It's also a Z06???But for the $20-30K, I'm slightly digging the C5Z over the newer C6's!!I do like GPS system and how the **** pit looks in the C6 better. But I read ken wood makes a few dash GPS systems that fit right into place.
