You should be able to remove them by gently heating them with a hair dryer and then pulling them off or you can try some WD-40/Goof Off and pull them off.
A good place to look for the inserts would be Mid-America Motorworks or Vette Works International (Not sure they are true chrome/stainless steel though).
I agree that the hairdryer works great for removing the old sticky. Worked great for the times I have replaced mine. I also found my stainless letters on the auction site for about $49.

I have the plate so I know what my ride is when the letters fall off..
Yes everyone knows what car it is, and I tried to fight it but it looks so much better. To me at least. I got a raised letter kit from e bay (sold out now) and love it. Was official GM product. I noticed most have it, but get what you want. Hopefully it stays on for a while.
Like you I was looking for something durable and these seem to be the best on the market....There is not much, more durable than stainless steel. The double sided tape appears to be the best available and only time will tell since I have only had them for 3 months.
I have tried it on steering wheel, passenger side dash and front/rear bumper. I have since removed them all as I like it much better without. Some overlays work ok but these areas don't work for overlays in my opinion and taste.
My yellow coupe came with red reflector ones, front and back. Going to leave them for now as the car also has red GS stipes and hood stripes. I originally was going to pull it all off but have decided to go full on Grand Sport. My 18/19" GS wheels get put on Monday and I'll be selling the Z06 wheels/tires.
