So I ordered the LMC5 as a preventative for my 98 M6. My wheel has never locked up when it shouldn't. It locks after you remove the key. I installed the LMC5 following the instructions and the video. Now as soon as I started the car my wheel locked on me and I can't undo it. I called the company but their voicemail is full. I emailed them too but nothing yet.
Ive read some stuff about removing the lock relay in a M6 but can't get a definitive answer. Can someone please help?
Crap man, that sucks, I've been like you were, I bought the stuff to do it and put it in the car with everything I need to do the install, BUT I've been leaving well enough alone till it fails.
Man I wish I could offer some advice, I've always heard that you can sometimes free it the first time by shaking the hell out it left and right, but definitely read up on it first cause I'm not positive.
Is your battery low by any chance ? That can trigger it as well.
I hope you get it figured out.
I tried shaking it back in force and the battery is fine. I tried to do something good for the car and it ends up screwing me and now I can't drive it all weekend until these guys call me back from customer support. I even followed the directions on the unlock her which is supposed to specifically unlock the wheel if it's locked and that is not working either. I'm so mad.
I'm only familiar with CLB but imagine it's pretty much the same principal' What I think might have happen is when you disconnected the harness to install the by pass you had the key turned off and inadvertently left the lock engaged. Now that it is disconnected it will not have the power to disengage the lock pin. I would connect everything as it was and test the lock. With CLB it is very important not to turn the key off when disconnecting factory harness. Once unlocked and harness is disconnected there is no more power for it to lock again. The stuff you plug into the now empty socket is only there to fool the computer to thinking the original factory system is still attached and functioning and in turn preventing the 2mph fuel shut off issue. Good luck. It might look like pain now but it is the right thing to do, god knows I got stuck several times in the most un-opportune times before.
I had the key out of the ignition and the wheel was unlocked when I started the process. When I finished everything I connected the battery back and turn the key forward on and off several times and then tried turning the wheel with the key forward and it locked and will not unlock now.
I'm going to completely remove the LMC five tomorrow and try and unlock it. The problem is once it's locked even if I uninstall it the wheel will remain that way. I tried using the unlock her but that did not work either.
The locking pin is spring loaded and unless it hits the hole in locking plate the wheel will have some movement giving you an impression it is unlocked. Not sure if that was the case but it's all I can think off. If everything was unlocked then CLB or LMC would not cause it to lock. Best to put all back to the way it was, unlock it then while key is still in ignition unplug the harness and install the LMC. If the wheel was unlocked as you say and you unpluged the motor in that state and the CLB was bad for some reason then the worst thing that could happen is the car would shut off at 2mph when moved. Good luck
Here is the trouble shooter page from them...maby the BCM fuse blew? Do the interior lights work? DIC light up?
Just trying to help u---I bought one with unlocker & keep it in glove box. Says key should be left on when disconnecting power...

Q. After reconnecting the battery, the interior lights (or DIC, gauges, etc.) don't work. What's wrong?
A. With the vehicle off, check that all three connectors (green and pink) are firmly attached to the BCM. Then, check the BCM fuses in the fuse panel. If you find a blown fuse, check that you've connected the LMC5 wires to the correct connector terminals and replace the fuse. Try it again. If it still doesn't work, or no fuses were blown, check that each LMC5 wire goes to the correct terminal, that each is fully seated, and that the LMC5 black ground wire is attached to the BCM.
When you install the LMC5 you first have to make sure the column is not in a "loaded ready to lock" condition. Otherwise after the LMC5 install it will lock as soon as you turn the steering wheel because you left it in a loaded condition. Sort of like removing a pistol magazine but forgetting to remove a chambered round.
If your steering wheel is not in a "failed and locked up" condition here is how you can do the install:
Before you start the LMC5 install:
If the CL is functioning normally you don't not need the Unlocker, merely turn key on, pull fuse #23, remove key, verify wheel is unlocked, disconnect negative battery terminal, re-insert fuse #23 and continue with the install. Reconnect the battery once the LMC5 install is finished.
PS: There is another way to unlock it by jumpering power to the CL motor at the CL relay under the dash. If you want to do this I can walk you through it with my FSM. It is easy. Once you put the motor in the unlocked condition with LMC5 installed it will stay that way.
Sometimes i skim by instructions and its always come back to haunt me like this. It sounds like a botched install but if it does eventually turn out thats not the problem they have a special module they can trade you that works on that rare 1% of cars but u probably just botched this a bit. Ive seen alot of bricked phones from people not following instructions to the letter and sometimes there really is no solution but im confident you will have this sorted out in no time.
I installed my LMC5 yesterday afternoon for the service column lock warning and fuel cutoff. I spoke with Richard at Compliance parts and he said he would be in for tech support today if needed until 5pm PST. Hopefully you'll get in touch with him today!
Thanks Chuck. I was concerned also that he had a 98 the 97-98 did not have the relay. I would have never have him power up wires without the schematic. That is why I wanted him to call me, I used to be able to use my earlier DVDs on the service manuals but no more with Windows 8.
The guidance on pulling the fuse was directly form Rick at Compliance Parts.
Thank you to everyone who responded. I was able to talk to Richard at compliance parts where I bought it from. It turns out it was something simple that yes I did not pull fuse 23. That part was not in the main body of the instructions so I must have overlooked it. There is a YouTube video he made showing how to do the install and honestly I followed the video more than I followed the written instructions and pulling of the fuse was not in the video.
As for the unlocker at some point the wires must have briefly touched because it blew the fuse and I did not realize that until this morning. Richard got me squared away over the phone and between him and you guys I really appreciate everything! It should be good to go now.

Thoes spare fuses do come in handy now don't they.
