Default Left trunk latch won't allow trunk to close

Have done a lot of research on the forum and have have had great success finding answers to my issues.
I have searched for trunk issues but only find information about the trunk lid not popping up enough. My issue is the opposite. I can't get it to close. The right side latch acts fine but the left side latch won't open to allow the hasp to go into the opening to keep it shut. It's like the mechanism is stuck in the latched position.
Has anyone had experience with this?
Thanks

I don't have any experience but would check good latch against bad latch and see what is missing or broken. My guess would be a spring is.

Thanks for the replies. Checked them out but they look the same. Tried the screwdriver poking around last night. No luck yet! Hate to take it in for something that seems so simple!

Would someone explain the problem to me. I have a 2002 Z06 and the latch for the trunk lid is in the middle. There is no left and right. I would assume the convertible trunk lid would be the same. The coupe does not have a trunk lid. So what do I not know?

Should have said deck lid, hatch lid, rear compartment hatch etc...not trunk.
Still searching threads without any luck.

As pmurray noted above, I ended up poking around some more with a screwdriver in the left side "hatch" lock.
I couldn't get it to move around at all but noticed when I hit the "hatch" release button, the tumbler in the center of the latch mechanism moved slightly. I couldn't get it to move on its own but when depressing the "hatch" button on the key fob continually and pressing down on the left side of the tumbler continually, I got it to spin around and get it in the latched position.
Started taking off the rear compartment interior panels to gain access to the latch but thought I would give it one more try the "easy" way.
Thankfully it worked before it started raining!

As you said, it sounds like the bad one is stuck in the 'locked' position. Two thoughts:
1. Give a yank on the emergency release cable on that side, see if it's hung up.
2. Push the release button on the fob while you're back there and listen to verify that both release actuators are, um, actuating.
EDIT: never mind, just saw your last post. (face-palm)

Hi there, Were able to fix it. I am not sure, but could it be the latch actuator?
