Just painted my top and it's the first time I've used Plasti Dip. I have a question concerning the gloss coating they sell. Right now it's a little cloudy in sections and I'm hoping it clears up as it dries. Any one else have this problem???
First off it's no where near thick enough. U need about 2 cans on that top. It's patchy bc it's uneven but it's still not gonna dry completely clear
Second- the glossifier is not a clear coat. When it dries it's glossier than normal plastidip but no wear near as glossy as clear coat.
The top has one complete can of black base coat, about half a can of red metalizer, and a complete can of glossifier. All in all about eight to ten coats. Every thing was fine until I applied the gloss coat. That's when things started to turn south.
why not have it wrapped? Search my name for pics on mine posting from my phone.
You can't tell from the pic but the top has a very subtle red metallic flake finish. Just some thing I wanted to try. The good thing is if it turns out looking like crap I can peel it off and then wrap it.
Esp when u got that much work in it. U might try calling dyc and ask. They r actually really helpful with that. I have never had luck with the glossifier.

Well I'm going to let it dry overnight and hope for the best. I'll post pics tomorrow and a write up of the process.
Glossifier will not make it a whole lot better honestly. There's little difference when adding it on the normal Plasti dip.
A far as your coverage is concerned, it kinda looks like you tried to paint it all on one go. Try to shoot it on small even coats. First time around don't go for complete coverage, just concentrate on getting a good base. Next couple of coats slowly add more overage until it's completely painted. Seems by your finish some spots were covered heavier than others due to excessive dip in a certain areas. Good news is, you can peel and try again.
I've used the glossifier over clear PlastiDip. It does not significantly add gloss - certainly well short of clearcoats. I use it directly behind the front wheels on the fender to protect from rock chips. You can definitely tell the difference in gloss between it and the clearcoat - kind of like an eggshell or satin sheen instead of a gloss.
The top has cleared up some now that it has had time to dry completely but it still doesn't look right. I think the problem is I had the spray can too far from the surface. DYC says 4 to 5 inches and the can says 10 to 12 which is what I did. It's glossy like a clear coat in some places and looks faded or weathered in others.
This was my first time using Plasti Dip so live and learn. The black base coat and red metallic flake came out perfect. I got the effect I was looking for and I'm happy about that. If the gloss coat had worked and not turned out foggy in spots the top would look fantastic! Form a distance it looks black, get about 5 ft away and it has a very subtle reddish hue, from about 1 ft or less you can see the red metallic flake. For now I'm going to leave it as is as I don't have time to mess with it until next weekend. This is actually good because I want to see how this stuff holds up and better to test it with some thing I'm going to peel off and redo. Pics are coming of the finished top on the car.
This stuff is tougher than you'd think. It's crazy.
Just wanted to say that the closer u hold the can to it the smoother it'll come out. Also I have better luck with a few thick coats vs a bunch of thin coats. Just my experience tho.
Put it on the car and well, it looks like crap. The red metallic finish is cool but the foggy gloss coat kills it. I'll be peeling it off and starting over. Back to the drawing board!!!!

Just add more glossifier. Sounds like you dont have enough or you did a bunch of light coats? One coat of glossifier is usually enough but you need to do a thick/wet coat.
ive never had any success with the glossifier makes it worse in my opinion. Id watch some dipyourcar videos on youtube im sure there is a technique to doing it right
