So I'm picking up an 03 z06 tomorrow and this will be my first ever vette. I'm coming from the blue oval side of things. It is bone stock with 31k miles and torch red. All i plan on doing is putting a shifter and some exhaust on it for now. Any advice on a good shifter and best deals on long tubes and catted xpipes? I have emissions here too so I hope long tubes don't screw with that. I'll get some pics this weekend. Thanks for listening.
I own a 2003 Z06 and have a set of Kooks long tube 1 3/4" headers with 3" mid pipes, catted X-pipe dropping down to 2 1/2" to the stock titanium catbacks. The new Kooks design installed quickly & easily - and the whole setup sounds great and provides lots of extra power & torque. Maryland Speed Products recently advertised a Kooks sale, so you might want to check them out. I had installed a Hurst shifter, but I was really having problems with hard shifting. My mechanic reinstalled the stock shifter with a different carrier - problem solved. But I wonder if my problem was with the carrier, not the shifter. I may try to reinstall the Hurst to see if there's any difference. Apparently, the carrier has some bushings that can wear out and cause problems. Best of luck with your new Z06! They're a blast to drive!
I picked up a used hurst c6 shifter with c6 ****. Feels great but it can be hard to shift. The hurst wants force behind it. Once your used to it, no big deal. Going from my gf's 03 cobra to the z feels very weird. Texas speed are about the cheapest headers you can get. They seem to be pretty good too.
As far as your emissions. Do they put it on the rollers and sniff test it? If so then you may have some problems. If they just hook up to the obdII port the youll be fine. When I lived in MD, I had an 03 Mach 1 with lt's, o/r h, and flowmasters. The guy walke around it, stood behind it. Smelled the fumes, looked at me and said no way its passing. He was at a loss for words when it passed. My gf's cars never had cats either. Its funny, no emissions down here and we both have cats at the moment.
I liked the stock c6z **** a lot. But I had some play in the shifter itself. Rsd makes a nice rebuilt setup. Mgw is supposed to be the best. I liked my Hurst though. Made it really stiff lol
Well after picking it up today I feel that the car is almost perfect from the factory! lol. Still want a bit louder exhaust but I need to make sure it will pass emissions. The stock shifter isn't terrible either, but a tad long.

MGW is a much shorter and more positive shifter, but beware that getting into 5th is a pain. I have an MGW billet shifter box ready to install which I hope will improve this issue.
