Go out on the highway, with your Garmin GPS (or whatever you have). It will give you accurate mph. Compare with your speedometer at 60, 70, etc. You'll know if it's off a little. It won't be much.
Time yourself on the interstate between mileposts. 60 seconds per mile at 60 mph. Compare with your speedometer.

If no Garmin but a smartphone is available download the App Speed Guage or Speed Hub that you can compare the speedo against. The smartphone App works on the boat too, should you have a boat.

#1. True, But a regular will work, Just not as sharp.
#2. Your speedo will not be off to my knowledge.
#3. You always have to hold it going up for safety reasons, But should go down with a quick tap, If you hold it too long it will stop when you remove your finger .

I'll try not to hold it too long and see if it goes down auto.
Great...Thanks for the advice. How do I figure it with a calculator?
Use this one, or one like it. Original tire size should be posted on a label on the car. Plug the OEM numbers in and the ones you currently have to determine speedo effect. But really, the garmin or smartphone app is better.
