So, under normal conditions the car (Coupe) is pretty good about not leaking...however, when trying to wash her, she loves to bring the water in. The leak comes mainly from the rear side (between the top and the rear "B" pillar (hoop). I am looking at replacing the hoop weather stripping as there seems to be some areas of it being torn. I have found the stripping ranging in price from $100-$300.
Mid-America has the value one for $100 and step up at around 130, and then oem at $300.
Has anyone replaced this strip and would the mid-grade be worth it? I was also looking at replacing the weather stripping on the removable top as well, but Mid-America has confused the crap out of me.
You can get both sides for $100, or each side for $350. Again, I was looking at getting the mid-grade ones.
I did search, but a lot of the information was out dated or not directed to where to get the parts from. I know OEM is usually the best (even with its inherent flaws), but $800 for rubber is a bit out of my price range. One day I will replace the windshield seal, but may have to wait until someone is parting out a project and has one laying around.
I got all my weather stripping from Corvette Central. I called them and gave them the specks on my coupe and they sent the seals out. I thinks it cost me 250 for all three seals for the top.
I bought the MA mid-level halo because my 99 is a high mile DD, and I just could not see myself spending that much ($300) for an OEM strip of rubber. Well - the mid-level I got (I am assuming they are all the same) was not a single piece - it had nasty fuse marks where it was pieced together - and well inside of a year, started to separate at the fused areas. I ended up ripping it out and going to my local Chevy dealer, bending over and paying the 300, BUT - - it does not leak anymore, the piece is quality and has stood up very well over time. Lesson learned for me. I would guess if you decide to go mid-level - you probably will not be very happy.
I recently replaced the hoop strip on my hatchback. At first i tried the cheap on and it was a piece of c---. The vendor also offered a genuine replacement which worked great. A piece of cake for DIY. Good Luck

Which vender did you use for the genuine replacement? I was looking today to take some pix for you all (which are still on the phone) and there is a nasty gap on the backside of the driver window where you can clearly see the water intrusion.
Due to forum rules, if you cannot leave the name of the vender, can you please PM it to me? Thanks!

Dielectic grease ? Do you just put some on finger or rag and wipe on and wipe off ? does it discolor the black at all ?
I used dielectric grease on the hatchback seal to test it out just for the reason you mentioned and did not discolor it but made a little shinier as if you were to Armor All it or the like. So, pleased with that outcome, I did the rest of the car's stripping yesterday. Owners manual recommends dielectric grease also. I applied with rubber/latex sort of glove and wiped off after with cotton towel. The towel wont be good for anything else after. I got some on my jeans and wouldn't wash out so be careful of car interior.

After checking my folders, I couldn't find the vendor. There are many good places out there such as CC and E. Sorry Dude.
