Default LS6 Valve Train Questions?

Good morning, gentlemen (and ladies?),

I've got a little project that's in the works. I'm going to be swapping out my "Ticking Time-Bomb" 02 LS6 valve springs. So I've got a few questions/thing I want to double-check to make sure of:
1. The new-style LS6/2 Valve spring PN is 12499224, correct?
2. Would a Comp Cams trunnion upgrade kit be a good idea while everything is apart? And would this affect anything else in the valve train? Meaning, would I have to do anything differently than if I just went back with the original rockers?
3. Would hardened chrome-moly pushrods be a good idea at this time? I found a set of hardened 7.4"'s and was thinking of using those.

I know I have a few more things I need to know, but I can't think of anything else at this moment. Please, be gentle. And thanks for any help anyone can offer.

Also, instead of buying everything separate, would it make sense to just buy this? I've got stock cam/heads.

It's the Comp Cams valvetrain upgrade kit.

I would highly suggest the trunion upgrade since your rockers will be off anyway... when you see the design of the factory rockers and how easily needle bearings can be released into your motor you will see how important it is and for only $120 or so it's very cheap insurance... once installed, everything will work like normal, no other mods needed... personally I wouldn't worry about pushrods until you do a cam... there really isn't any need for hardened pushrods with a stock cam and if you buy them now and then install a cam you might need a different length rod depending on the cam so there's a chance you would have to buy another set and spend more money

Good call on the pushrods. I didn't think about that. I don't see myself camming the car any time in the foreseeable future, but it's a possibility one day.

Back to question 1... Do I have the right idea with the valve springs? And should i replace the retainers also? I know I'm going to do valve guide seals at that time.

Oh, sorry. 37K. I'm in the sweet spot of valve spring failures and since I've been drag racing, I think it's a good idea to swap them before I blow my **** up.

I would just reuse the factory retainers/locks... I used pac 1518 springs on my swap and reused the factory stuff with no problems, I think you will be fine

Okay cool. That saves me even more money! Thanks for all your help. I still need to figure out the right part number for valve springs. I've heard conflicting information.

I don't have an answer on the spring part # or I would have helped... you might try calling a dealer and asking for the part # for an 05-07 base model vette

I have the comp cams trunion upgrade kit (purchased from Summit Racing), brand new and never opened. I'd take $100 shipped, as I decided not to do the mod. PM me if you're interested.

Planning on swapping mine soon. Based on previous posts, these appear to be the correct parts.

12499224 LS Valve Spring Kit
12482063 LS Intake Valve Seal Kit
12482062 LS Exhaust Valve Seal Kit
12637683 LS Valve cover gasket (if needed)

I'd have a few extra keepers/locs on hand.
Just in case you loose a couple.

I used a Fel-Pro brand gasket kit for the intake manifold ... available at most local auto parts stores. Half the price of the GM intake gasket set, and just as good.

I was talking about valve guide seals. I'm not going to change the valve cover o-ring unless it ends up leaking. Even then, I have a pretty good stock of gasket compounds. 👍
