I am about 75% decided to try the FLP L.T. headers/X-Pipe and high flow cat package on my 02 Z06. Can someone who has this set-up on their 02 please tell me if you have dyno and/or track results?
If I go this route I will have a set of ceramic coated B&B Shorty headers for sale - they have about 3K miles on them.
Don't waste your money for the LPE name. Get in on MattG's Stainlessworks header GP before it's too late. Here is what I gained on my 01 Z. Since Stainlessworks makes LPE's headers.......................well, you get the idea.
You will NOT find a better set of headers for the money...PERIOD! Lastly, LPE uses the stock cats on his TT cars.
SW Advantages: 3/8 Flange (not clear what the FLP is). Stainless Steel vs. mild steel.
FLP Advantages: Longer primary tubes, no cutting/welding required.
Of course if the X-Pipe and hi-flo cats are not of interest now or later the economic comparison shifts, but looking apples to apples is what I am trying to do.
I installed my FLP headers and what a deal, fit and finish top notch. I have also installed another name brand header and helping a friend out in the morning on a set of LG headers that are crap!! they do not line up at all, and leaked on both sides of the heads to headers. Not impressed at all. Go with the FLP's you can't go wrong!!!!!! :flag
yelloz06 - header length is a factor, many believe longer is better, 32" is opimal on the LS1, don't know about the LS6 but since the 21" is what I bought ... angle etc. is also important and will affect overall performance. IMO, especially on a stock heads and cam car, the differences will be slight (among LT's) therefore fit, finish, price and practicality should weigh in the decision.
360lemans - I hear ya, ordered the FLP's tonight. Can't wait!
I specifically mentioned that the economics shift if you don't believe in the X-pipe or hi-flo cats. I also probably should have put in the ease of returning to stock with the FLP's. If you drop just the cats the prices are very close, value is down to the consumer.
To my knowledge there is no dyno data to compare the stock Z06 cats to the hi-flo's from FLP.
Les, I had already invested in a magnaflow xpipe to rid my car of that hideous exhaust rattle, so my stock hpipe has already been cut. I liked the fact I could add the SW headers, retain my stock cats, and keep my already installed x pipe.
If my exhaust was still totally stock, I'd definitely consider the complete package FLP system. But for me, the SW is the way to go at this point in the game money wise. I've also been very impressed with the power gains folks are seeing with the SW setup, and those are with the stock cats. Maybe those 02 cats aren't as restrictive as one might think.
I hear ya - I agree - the SW system rocks, no doubt. For me since my system hasn't been cut a total package was what I wanted - FLP does that for me. If I already had an X-Pipe no doubt in my mind I would go with the SW.
UMMM LES your BLUE DADDY has a set of long tube heders now, and a 15 pound cylinder with you name writtttten alllllllllllll over it. I will be at Silver dollar all day SUNDAY, you need to bring that sled down for a good beaten again!!!! Damn this bottle of 150 year old Grand Marnier is kicking my a#ss tonight. Les I am happy you are getting long tube headers man..
Do the SW need to be coated? (They are Stainless after all). Do you need an X-Pipe? What purpose do these two things serve?
Is there a HP increase from an X-pipe?
The stainless does not have to be coated. As far as the X pipe they claim 5 hp but it is more likely to smooth out the sound and quiet down the exhaust.
